hi, a problem that i need some advice on has prompted me to join the forum. i read it regularly but sadly never joined till now.
so a brief introduction. i live in west yorkshire and have been biking for the last 6 years. owned suzukis and triumphs and now on a '99 blade.
anyway my problem. 12 months ago i bought the blade, the rr-x model from a dealer, not a honda dealer by the way. he made all the right noises to my questions. you know the talk, 'uk spec local bike serviced by us', 'loved by the owner thats why it looks mint', you won't have any problems with this, I've done the work myself'. fell for it all. also the bike had 12 months mot and new discs fitted.
4000 miles and 12 months later it goes to my local honda dealer for the mot. warped discs, possible issues with the front wheel and notchy race bearings. additionally the headlight is european whilst the clocks uk. now you probably see where i'm going here. My question is do i have any recourse with the dealer in question or do i accept being caught out, buying an import that in my limited knowledge has probably done more that it's far share of wheelies.
i would be grateful for any advice on what to do. I am currently in communication with the dealer but don't fancy losing my bike for a lengthy period. cheers

I'm no consumer rights lawyer but I'd have thought you haven't much room for manoeuvre. Possibly on the issue of it being an import, but the rest of it after 12 months and 4000 miles a dealer would just say you've done it, ie wheelies, hard braking, etc. etc.
I'm not even sure if it's illegal to tell someone a bike is UK spec knowing it's European. Maybe someone else on here will be more help. Sorry.

If it's in writing that it's a UK model then you will have a case, altho after 4k I don't think you'll have any comeback on the bearings and discs. on the receipt does it say UK spec? I'm not sure where you stand if it was just verbal I suspect you won't have much joy it does highlight the importance of HPI checks and TBH now that you can get them for less than a tenner by text makes them indispensable
It could well have been wheelied but that doen't always mean the bike will be knackered at years old it could just be wear and tear maybe ask the reparing dealer for a report on the faults and take it from there.
If the bearings were in a bad way when you bought it they would have been noticeable with horrid steering and cornering.

Did you ask if it was a full UK spec bike, unless you did I don't think there's a lot you can do.
I know with private sales regarding anything it's buyer beware, the rules for dealers are slightly different, but I think that's only to do with faults, which after 12 months and 4k you'd struggle to get anyway. Was any warrenty mentioned?

On the V5 you should see info re its history ie when it came into the UK from Mr Honda.And although I stand to be corrected the vin number gives the year in it somewhere-try asking Mr Honda GB-also a lot of parts are dated(month and year) Sadly I concur with the other forumites-after 12 months you wont really have a leg to stand on unless you can show its NOT the Bike you believed it to be so ask Mr Honda to help you-

thanks for all the info to date guys. There is some update as the dealer is going to look at the wheel and discs. And the supplier is most likely going to replace them after discussions today, fingers crossed. I'll find out next week.
Above all, as i do like the bike tremendously, I have learnt that your guard needs to be up with dealers as well as private sales. When I mentioned to european spec side of things I got some denials then blank looks. Whether or not they were aware of such information I don't know. This is a worry as I did asked for confirmation of this being a uk bike, which was confirmed at the time, hence no independent check, (it's a dealer, it's a local bike, it's okay).
My local honda dealer has been superb, eventhough I didn't get the bike from them. Supplying advice and pointers which has helped greatly and not too much of 'you should have waited and got the bike from us' which is true I think I should have.
Anyway, thanks again I will update if interested.
