PUFF, then nothing????
      #29232 - 11/07/2008 22:57

Hi all knowing forum dudes.

A guy on our Shiver forum is thinking of selling his because.....

"Just today I was flying down the street doing like 65mph slowed down to make a left turn onto another street twisted the throttle to accelerate after completing the turn and all I got was *PUFF* then nothing.

Put the throttle back in a neutral position then twisted it again and voila I had power."

It also runs bad generally. None of this is normal for Shivers (any more )

Any ideas why this might be happening would be gratefully passed on.
Seems a shame to sell a great bike for a fixable (under warranty) fault.

Sounds like a very brief fuel shortage to me, maybe something to do with the turning left?

I had a firestorm that used to do something similar and it turned out to be a nipped fuel breather pipe. It only ever happened after just filling up though.

Could be the TPS or fly by wire messing around.

Thanks for the replies guys.

From what the guy describes it would be quite frequent fuel shortages.
He says it sometimes just drops 500rpm for no apparent reason when he's tootling along.
His dealer says "they all do that sir" fuckers. No wonder he want to sell it.

What's TPS?

Throttle position sensor, not sure if it would have that effect but you did say after he shut the throttle it was ok again shot in the dark really but yea fuel shortage could do it seems odd that it ok again all of a sudden tho I'd have thought it would keep doing it.
he could check for kinked pipes loose fuel pump connection etc. the next step is to smother the bike in KY jelly and return it to the dealer that said "they all do that". What a crock of shit.
