Hello, just bought a pair of paddock stands (Motrax aluminium). Rear one works great. Front one doesn't. It seems my fork legs are different lengths - one has a bolt through it running front to back (Suzuki GSX650F 08). I'm presuming this means most front stands won't work unless the height is individually adjustable for each side - and I can't find any that are. Any thoughts appreciated.

I've got a Harris SS front stand that has an adjustable leg.

A bit late now if you've already got a rear but an ABBA stand is a great buy. Get both wheels off the floor with the addition of a couple of bricks/jack and the suspension completely unloaded as well, front and back. Great bit of kit, highly recommended.

thanks for the responses so far. I've also just found some front stands that seem to fit into the steering head rather than lifting from the bottom of the forks - anyone have any experience with this type?

Yep, that's pretty much it. As chappers said a bit more faffing around than normal, so probably not the best thing for trackdays. It's not a huge hassle though. If you're interested the best thing to do is see it demoed at a show/dealer and decide.
I have both the abbastand and paddock stands and very rarely use the paddock stands. You can even move the bike around with it attached by letting it down onto the wheels. It's definitely better for working on the bike or winter storage than trackdays though. Even my wife can get my bike up onto it with it, so it's also handy if you find lifting a bike with a paddock stand hard work.

BTW
If you do go for conventional front and rear stands *don't* use the front one on it's own. It is not stable. They must be used with a rear stand.
If I had my time over I would probably go for the centre stand above as, apart from it's other virtues, it takes up a lot less space than two conventional stands and no need for bobbins. I have used them at tyre garages and they really do work well.
