I read in the Superbike mag this week about their K8 gsxr 750 being disapointed with the sound from the Yoshi end can. I have a K8 also and was looking to put a yoshi on it,should I now look to put a full system on instead. My K4 sounded awesome with a Yoshi on it I feel its a lot of money to shell out if the collector box seems to be taking away the sound from the K8,Any Ideas? Thanks.

Welcome Robbie7. Dissapointed from the sound . Id be more pissed if the build quality was below par or the fact the can made slightly less power than STD.

I was looking for something like the Yoshi, a can that not only looks but doesn't make too much noise (the neighbours don't like being woken up at 0530 by a loud bike on a sunday morning!!) It's just the price tag that puts me off.

I've been wondering, can a tortoise swim?
Not according to 118118!! (can someone lend me a tortoise to see if they're right?)

Welcome, Robbie. Like Chappers says (and he's usually right) you know the build quality will be good, Yoshi will usually result in a power gain (more with dyno time and a map), and it will ALWAYS sound better than standard.
I just think the guys at the mag have higher expectations than most of us.......

As you say, I think the 'problem', if there is one, is that the GSX-R has much of its silencing done in the big underslung canister. The 'silencer' section that slips on afterwards is just like a back box on a car I suppose - so changing only that bit will have a limited effect on the sound. The Yosh Handley had was just that - a small slip-on. The butterfly valve and cat etc are all still in place.
Also, bear in mind that Handley is never happy. And he also made such an arse of fitting the pipe that he fucked both a footpeg mounting hole thread and the swingarm. No wonder he supports Tottenham, eh?
Dave Smith and I fitted a new Micron full system for him last week though, so we'll see what he makes of that. Although since they've shut down, I don't know if you'll be able to buy one anymore...

I concour. If you assume litre bikes are going to make the same sort of noise levels, there or there abouts, my ZX10 with an Akropovic end can is 95dB with the baffle removed whereas my track fireblade with a full Viper race system is at 102dB.
Given the expotential of the dB scale that seems either an awful lot of noise is being silenced on the ZX before it reaches the end can, the Akropovic is a very efficient silencer or the fireblade is a much louder engine. I reckon the first option makes most sense.

Just to reiterate Al's comments, yes I am a fuck head when it comes to fitting things although I can remember having a monster hangover and not really giving a fuck. I just wanted some sound from it!!! The Yoshi is the best looking can by miles for the 750 but just a can is a waste of time. It looks the bomb but sound even with baffle removed is pitiful. Slightly better midrange but not enough. If I had put on the full system it would have been fantastic as all yoshi products are but I couldn't face going to them with my tail between my legs after a week of having blagged the can. Go for the full system end of!! The cat needs to be removed in the pipework section to give the noise and power you expect. The Micron I have on there now is proper loud and gives some good solid extra bhp (more in the next issue) but it looks shit if I'm honest. Go yoshi, go yoshi, go yoshi. (In a full £1200 system kinda way)

Thanks for your comments, yes the micron system does look shite. Why did Suzuki put these collector boxes on any way?I can understand the emissions issue but surely they could of made the collector box to be removed rather than welded in place, guess it makes more money for Yoshi with more full systems getting sold.

I had a conversation a while back with the service folk at P&H and they said the "power valve" on new Suzukis is *only* there to reduce noise below 6000 rpm.
IE it has no effect on mid range (unlike for instance the old R1 powervalve). They predict next year the gixxer range will not have them at all because the EEC regs next year forbid noise reduction devices that are specifically aimed at getting around noise regs at specific rpm.
