I know there were some concerns that the Beeb would ditch MotoGP coverage after news that it had acquired the F1 broadcasting rights from 2009. This press release would seem to suggest we're going to be OK, no matter what tax dodging Lewis Hamilton does.
"BBC Sport and Dorna Sports, commercial and TV rights holders of the MotoGP World Championship, have signed an extension to the existing agreement for coverage of MotoGP from 2009-2013. BBC Sport will now have exclusive UK rights to broadcast the world’s premier motorcycle championship for the next five years.
The deal includes the rights to show all the races – 125cc, 250cc and MotoGP, plus qualifying sessions. All MotoGP races will be shown live on BBC Television with the 125 and 250 races, and qualifying sessions shown live on interactive TV via the red button and online. As well as the expanded coverage on interactive TV (which 86% of individuals in the UK has), the MotoGP races will also be available as a catch-up service on BBC iPlayer. Available for seven days after initial broadcast, coverage on BBC iPlayer can be accessed on bbc.co.uk/iplayer.
The new agreement represents increased commitment and coverage of MotoGP for BBC, and makes the broadcaster the UK leader in motor sport with the world’s premier bike and car events in MotoGP and Formula One."

The problem with I player for me is convenience the handy thing with it being on eurosport is I can set Sky+ and forget it you can't programe or record the BBC interactive service (Red button), lets hope I can record to DVD on iPlayer from my computer. I do think it should be good for the sport if the peasants can watch too.

Agreed. It's okay BBC having the rights, lets hope they exercise those rights and actually show them all somewhere. I would have thought they've got a great opportunity to really sell it to the masses, especially if Bernie does us all a favour and takes F1 away.
Anyone who likes racing can't help but be excited by bike racing in general, because of how relatively close it is compared to F1 for example. Didn't Hamilton win at the weekend by a day-and-a-half or something like that?
Doubt the BBC will have the fore sight to do that though.

The beeb need to employ Julian Ryder and Toby Moody to replace the current useless idiots they have doing the commentary on the beeb. I seriously hate watching moto gp with Parish and Cox commentating, they have no idea, a monkey could commentate better than those two imbeciles.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Cox used to race touring cars and is a car driver, not a bike racer.

Based on that logic any of us could do it. Actually any of us would probably do a better job.

To be honest, I don't mind Cox, the fact that he's not a biker and just a naive enthusiast who doesn't claim to know much makes him OK in my book. Parish, on the other hand, is a cock. And Suzi Perry should be fronting a house makeover show instead of 'flaunting' her fading glamour. If a male interviewer flirted as much with women athletes or whatever, there would be a national outcry.
But do we need bikers commenting on bikes? If you look at telly coverage of football, athletics and – especially – tennis (Henman and Castle), most ex-players are shit when commenting on their sports.
Toby 'Alan Partridge' Moody and Julian Ryder get my vote, though not without reservations.

I couldn't agree more!
The BBC should get Toby & Julian, not forgetting Randy tho. I love those open mic moments, he's like an excited little kid that's seen his first bike.
Got to love Randy!

too right!, i can't get eurosport while i'm here in cyprus so i have to watch the bbc coverage hijacked by BFBS. i can't stand the dribble they give out. and whats just as annoying is Suzi Perry running around the starting grid trying to get a word with the racers, she's like an annoying fly that won't go away! roll on october when i get back home and can view eurosport again!

i agree about Toby and Julian, i find that they bring a bit of exitement to the races, even when the race may be a little boring, i love listening to them because they get so exited to a point where they can hardly get their words out!
not sure about Randy tho, he does my head in at times.

And Ive still got the vid of that Donington Kev/Wayne race when Murray got so tongue tied he had to stop talking to let his brain catch up-he also said Haslam(on the Norton Rotary) was on a full blown 500 2 stroke-bless
