Team MLC - BH Indy at Bemsee...
      #29793 - 22/07/2008 14:48

OK... it is, as Kenny & Dave reminded me, all about lap times.

Here's the first race on Sunday from Kenny's last visit to Brands Indy under the wing of the Thundersport GB peeps in their 600 class...

http://www.sportstimingservices.com/modules/shop/images%5CTsportRnd6Race2.pdf

...and here's the first race on Sunday just gone from the Rookie 600 class...

http://www.mylaps.com/results/newResults.jsp?id=888050

The first is a 15 lapper, the second an 8-lapper.

Observations of an armchair observer:

The first thing to say is that Kenny has got faster through season but looking at the times, so have all the other Bemsee rookies! Some of them would be challenging for the podium in the MRO Supersport 600 race!

The second is that a 53 round Brands Indy is a pretty bloody quick lap, just not quick enough.

Third thing: Kenny, you seem to have hit a bit of a lap-time plateau.

Fourth thing. Frustratingly for you, I notice that in every race at the weekend your fastest lap is faster than the fastest laps of the three or four or five people ahead of you. If you can survive a 15 lap Thundersport race without keeling over and snuffing it I assume that the problem isn't that you can only do one quick lap, so I'm guessing that you have difficulty getting past people who are only a bit slower than you and end up stuck behind them and then getting shuffled to the back of the group. Is taht about the size of it?

Methinks it might be time to toddle off back to Donington and get some quality time in with young Mr Haslam to try and fix problems three and four...

It looks like you are still getting there, though. Get Dave to start work filing your elbows to a sharp point, and see the quack about getting some brave pills on prescription... :-)

Ah! Pembrey, eh?

I shall have to come down and watch/help out.

Maybe you can bring down that XXL Superbike T-shirt the mag owes me?

I can't speak for others but when I raced I found it a real pain in the arse when people would come to visit and want to help out. As far as I was concerned I was there to race and between myself and who ever I was racing with generally had things under control. TBH I was never in any mood to socialise as I was mostly busy, I generally preferred people to say hello if I had time I would sit down have a chat or a cuppa then fuck off and leave me alone. I tend to do the same hence my sticking my head in to say hi to Kenny and Dave at BH then leaving them to it.
At the end of raceday is generally a great time to socialise.

That's Ken told, then!

No I really didn't mean it like that XX. I posted it as something to bear in mind, Kenny is a completely different person to me and might welcome the company and help.

Fair enough, I understand and I'll bear it in mind. It's Kenny's call, though. The three things I had in mind to offer were:

1. The offer of an extra pair of hands for tyre warmers, collecting timesheets from race control, etc etc.

2. I know which way the circuit goes, can offer Kenny some 'starter for ten' reference points etc, from riding the circuit myself, from what I've learnt myself from picking the brains of others and from watching a lot of racing there. If Kenny or Dave have been to Pembrey before, then they probably won't want or need this, but if they don't have a trackday the day before to work this shit out then a race weekend doesn't give anybody enough tracktime to learn a very technical circuit, let alone get on the pace. Also, the fast line for qualifying at Pembrey is different from the pragmatic race line in a couple of places, making it even harder to get to grips with it during practice and qualifying.

3. Local knowledge. I know where there is a decent curry house in Carmarthen for example. Llanelli is a toilet.

However, I'm also fine with wishing him good luck, collecting said Superbike T-shirt and buggering off to spectate...

Team MLC's top rider is on holiday this week lads, so he may not be around to post any replies (depends on whether Mrs Pryde has allowed him to take a laptop).

Just in case you thought he wasn't talking to you...

Holiday?

Surely life as editor of the UK's leading bike mag is one long holiday......?

Same here. I hated having anyone round me. I did have someone helping me at the track who knew what I was like and I trusted, he was the only one I could have round me 20 minutes before and after a race, I even used to keep my girl friend out of sight close to race time IF she attended.

I'm not competitive, I just like a good veiw!
