Just got this months Superbike.
Page 142
"200 Metres it takes to brake for Redgate at Donnington - if you're Colin Edwards (who's pulling 1.4g under this strain)"
Excuse me, but that's bollox.
Colin Edwards brakes at the exit from the pit lane which is pretty much on top of Redgate.
200m would have him hitting the brakes at the old pit lane entrance or even before.

I think that was Simon's piece, and he's on holiday for a fortnight, so we'll have to wait for clarification!
I think he was using data from Brembo right enough. Perhaps a typo?

Thats my braking point-start of pit lane that is:  If I recall Mike Dohann(cant spell-its to early)braked at the furthest point where the pit lane tarmac met the track-its almost Redgate

The numbers came from Brembo MotoGP team support, Simon didn't conjure them out of his arse.

Have a look at this...

...and see where the rider brakes. It's a 990 M1 from 2006, apparently, so probably Vale or Colin, but the braking point won't be that different and it's way earlier than I expected. Mind you he's doing over 160mph when he brakes, and I doubt there are many mere mortals arriving at Redgate doing that kind of speed - if they were they'd probably shift their braking markers back a little as well!

I reckon from the video he's using that visible white line half way between the start-finish line and the pit exit as his braking marker, or at least something near it. And a quick look at that Google maps imagery above confirms that that line is not far off 200 metres from Redgate, amazingly enough...
But it does seem a hell of a long way back, doesn't it...

Not really, Tom Sykes said on Eurosport recently his braking marker for the esses at Snetterton was the 200m board and given the speeds involved there wouldn't be huge differences between SBKs and MotoGP bikes, better brakes yes, but higher speeds too.
So 200m would seem about right. Contrary to what some believe bikes brake far earlier than cars which also have higher corner speeds mid-corner. 4 wheels = 2 more wheels to brake and grip with. Of course bikes soon fuck off into the distance on acceleration though and that more than makes up for the corner advantage, unless we're talking F1 cars of course.
