Wanker of the week?
      #35580 - 31/10/2008 00:02

Jeff Smith.

The 62 year old riding instructor who rides a white ex Police Pan with lots of dayglo and records chunks of film 3 hours at a time with a helmet cam. Reports any bikers he thinks are 'riding like idiots' to the Police and sends them DVD's of his films.
Is Mr Smith...
You may choose only one
a noble knight of the road
sad man who should get a life or buy a car
should be given his own proper Police bike
should be made to read 1984 till his eyes bleed and his Pan rusts to dust

It's behaviour like this that makes one think it's only the English Channel that stopped England being just as bad as Holland or France when it came to loading Jews and Communists into cattle trucks for extermination in the early 1940s.

Discuss.

When I first read the title, I thought it was a contest for users on here. I was going to say that's unfair 'cos hillbilly will win by a mile but now I've seen what it's about I'll have to rethink.

He's still not doing as much damage to motorcycling in general as some though. Guy on bike with camera or guy on bike with no plate hoisting it large amidst a load of traffic? Hmm let me think?

I'd be amazed if the local feds loved this fella; they probably see him as a pain in the arse in some ways. As for our new Yankee stunt wannabe poster, I was amazed at the vitriol that was fired his way. He stunts like a clown on the roads? Who cares, really? The idea that riders like him have an big impact on national perceptions of bikers is nonsense. Get some perspective people.

By that way of thinking, anyone who revs their bike with a slightly too loud end can is as responsible for turning the world against us as the irresponsible stunt fools.
Anyone who extrapolates the behaviour and activity of one person and tars a whole group (or race) as a result of that observation is an imbecile. Or a Daily Mail reader.

You'd be amazed at the number of imbeciles and Daily Mail readers (aren't they one and same?) out there Kenny, want proof?

Ask Jonathon Ross and Russell Brand. Number of complaints on night - 2, number of complaints once you get the imbeciles involved 30,000+

Bandwagon and jumping anyone....

I think my real opinions on what people should and shouldn't do on the road has been well documented, remember my discussions with KWH etc. I don't behave like an angel OTR myself altho I do have guidelines I follow, treat other road users with respect and I'll take responsibility for my own actions.
I must confess though that I met a couple of members at a trackday a few weeks ago and chatting to one of them KDD he said he liked the forum but didn't like how some of the people on here wanted to dictate how others should behave on the road (or words to that effect).
Anyway since then I've been laid up (hernia op and had a lump removed this time) and bored unable to exercise or for a couple of weeks have sex, I tend to get rather frustrated and aggressive if I don't do either regularly. RSB came along at the right time for me didn't like him so decided to give him plenty of shit and ended up winding up another opinionated member as a bonus.
If I'm really honest I don't really give a fuck what he does as long as I'm not affected, so long as he's legal and doesn't hurt anybody else carry on.
So all in all my attitude and behaviour has been shit and I've been hypocritical, I've enjoyed it though.
So using the above as a guide I would like to nominate myself for "Wanker Of The Week" anybody up for a sticky so's we can nominate someone every week.

Fucking hell, it's coming to something if people are taking an internet forum seriously. I have my opinions on what should and shouldn't be done on the road, same as everyone else. It is just that though, an opinion and anyone who doesn't like that can tell me to fuck off and ignore me, most people do.

As for 'wanker of the week' I'm all up for that, I may even give some of you a chance to take it off me every so often.

This forum really would not be so enjoyable if there weren't so many differences of opinion, the colourful language and the arguments you guys get into? well, it's so much more fun than watching the local fishwives bitch in the street.

He has become an utter nob of the first order.

He was/is a MC trainer in and around Hampshire (not sure but may be based in Southampton). That is where I first came across him. A guy at a filling station near Alton told me about him in May. He thought he was the olde william, white bike, helmet and fluoro decals until he saw the from the back as the bike is plastered with all sorts of safe ride stickers. Since then I am pretty sure I came across him on the Dorset Hamps border-the bike does look very Police like.

This week he made it to MCN by boasting his filming exploits.

"I record all the idiots that are flying past at 80 or 90mph while I'm doing normal correct speed. If someone overtakes at abit over the limit in a 30mph zone, I would also report them..." Apparently he "estimates" the speed of the naughty bikers-good and accurate then.

"I know various Police officers. I just download the film onto DVD and give them the disc..."

He got all inspired when he heard about drivers filming naughty bikers and was very keen to add as many numbers as he can to their stockpile of lists, plus wanted to contact them to see if they had any tips on recording.

He doesn't know whether Police have acted directly on his info but was quoted as being very happy to see the road Policing unit at a local bike meet last weekend-the inference being HE was responsible.

"Every weekend now in Hampshire Police are out and in east Sussex, which is good..."

When asked what they would do on receiving such DVDs the Hampshire plods said "we would look at it" -poor sods, must interfere with reviewing seized porno terribly.

Just how long will it be before
A) he gets knocked off in a hit n run,

B) His house gets torched......

Not that I condone such behaviour, but some out there will take it to the extreme...

What an arse....dozy left wing do gooder....I wish he would bugger off and interfere somwhere else....oooh Gary Glitters got that one covered!!!

If his bike is very police like then surely he can be done for impersonating? Your description does make it sound like he's trying to make an unauthorised police presence. Could be wrong though, there's some examiners around here that ride ex-police Pans, very disconcerting on your test thinking you've got a copper behind you, quick glance in the mirror and you can be decieved into thinking theres one there.

Not according to 118118!! (can someone lend me a tortoise to see if they're right?)

He can't be done for "Looking like a cop"..he can only get done if he stops you and informs you that "HE IS A POLICE OFFICER", when he's not!!!
......I have this on very, very reliable authority.......

Bloke who is a good mate is a cop....served in the Army with him....
So I know he's reliable..

Left wing???
Oh come on.
He sounds like a nazi. Were they left wing?
I think you will find that he votes for the Conservative party if you ask him nicely.
So that makes hm right wing right?
Or is everyone you don't like branded as left wing?

I take exception because I myself am just a little left of Ken Livingstone in my politics and I know I'm right. (about everything)

I reckon this guy has a mental illness, probably obsessive compulsive, so he probably can't help it.
My policy would be to be very law abiding around him 'cos he'd probably get bored with it after a while.
Similar to the troll policy really.

KennyP. It wasn't so much rockerbillies riding that got me/us going as his initial attitude that he will carry on wheelying past schools and doesn't give a stuff if it affects the rest of us.
1dog however seems to have a serious brain cell shortage and yappy little attitude so gets my vote as wanker of the week.
I couldn't resist. Sorry, 'cos I know this will just encourage him to yap some more. But I promise I will utterly ignore him from now on.
