quite simply, my mate is after something like a scottoiler for his bike. the only thing he said is that he doesn't want to attach it to his engine (don't know why, just doesn't want to ). i told him that i thought you have to, to get the required vacuum. surely if its not connected to the engine it won't know when you are moving, idling, etc. it usualy works off the amount of revs doesn't it?? is it possible to get something along te lines of a scottoiler but with the need to connect it to the engine?

As far as I know they all work on vacum, so will only work when the engine is running. I used to have a scotoiler on my old Yam xj600, fairly simple to fit just tee into the carb vac pipe and does not cause any engine running problems.

Reassure your mate - it's really a very, very simple connection, whether his bike is carb or FI. I've had one on my last 4 bikes, with absolutely no problems at all. I wouldn't be without one.

i keep telling him how good they are, i have one myself. like you xx i couldn't be without it. i can't get my head round why he doesn't want it connected to his engine . IIRC it only uses 3ccs of whatever it is, which is nowt. il have to beat it into him that a scottoiler is the way to go

...unless he really enjoys lubing the chain on an almost daily basis during the wet months, spending money on chain wax/lube products, getting the stuff all over the garage floor/driveway....
Some folks do prefer to do that, mind. I'm sure the purists see Scottoilers as cheating....

To be honest the scottoiler is the business and I wouldn't not have one now, saves all that lubing and waxing bollox every week.

I've had a scottoiler on the bike for some time now! Great piece of kit, would high reccommend it! The installation instructions are very easy to follow and if push comes to shove the customer service is just a phone call / e-mail anyway. PS If you tour alot, I would go for the larger oiler which goes on the back of your reg plate. Go for it!!
