TEKNICS Textile kit
      #35475 - 29/10/2008 22:27

I got TEKNICS Lightning textiles...allegedly waterproof!!!!

ABSOLUTE BOLLOX!!!! I got completely soaked earlier, it wasn't raining that hard...and it went through them like a hot knife through butter....ARSE!!!

Anyone able to recommend a good WATERPROOF set of textiles, that won't break the bank......

Got the TEKNICS gloves as well....as bad as the textiles....

(XXRIDER...I don't do full rubber kit with GIMP masks...I leave that to elderley HONDA riders)

Weird. I've had a Teknic three-in-one Spider jacket for five years and its still the one I go back to when the weather is shit. It's been ridden in wet-as-a-power-shower weather on motorways and it was waterproof. Are we talking about the same brand here? If it was sold as 'waterproof' then take it back to the dealer, maybe it was a duff 'un? I reckon Teknic is a sound brand myself, including the leathers and a pair of waterproof boots that worked well too.

Cheeky young pup! Don't know why you can't do as I do - go so fast the rain can't catch me.......

Seriously, though, I have found with the "reasonably priced" end of the market that quality control seems to be an issue. I had two Teknic jackets in the past. The first one was as good as Kenny says - I then bought a second one on the strength of that, and it was crap. My current Fieldsheer was reasonably priced (OK, cheap) and is also crap.

I'm about to bite the bullet (and the bank account) and buy Rukka. I'm figuring that a second hand Rukka is still going to be better than what I have at the moment.

My local bike shop sells almost exclusively Frank Thomas. I had an Aqua jacket and trews - jacket was, again, crap but strangely the bottoms are holding up well and haven't leaked in the couple of years I've been using them. Probably a quality control thing again.

The Rukka is slightly used, in near mint condition, £110.
OK, so it's orange and black, but that just means I need to buy a KTM......

I'm going to have a look at the kit HEIN GERICKE do...I looked at BELSTAFF, but it seems to be "Fashionable"...with the price tag to go with it..

If I have to spend a little bit extra I will, it's an investment in my life...if I'm piss wrapped going down the road on the bike....freezing and not concentrating...thinking about how fucking wet and cold I am......

I'll have an accident through not concentrating or through Hypothermia.....as I take my Wife as Pillion, This isn't an option...I've chucked her down the road once before...luckily I bought her SPYKE leathers the weekend before that particular one!!

XX, As for staying ahead of the rain...I live in Wales....no matter what direction you go , however fast...you'll get wet....it'll rain....!!

I've seen a Xmas pressie for XX ...the OAP shop in Abergavenny has a wicked Zimmer frame "One only in PORSCHE RED".........Thought about you straight away!!!

I've got a Hein Gericke jacket (blouson they call it).
Haven't got wet yet (well once, but that was because I didn't do up the inner zip, d'oh!) the only thing I don't like about it is the time it takes to dry. At work after a 12 hour shift it's usually still wet which isn't nice for the journey home

If I know it's going to piss down then it's leathers with a one piece suit (also from Gericke for about 30 or 40 quid). Great in the winter as it keeps out the rain and cold. A git in the summer though cos you sweat!

I've been wondering, can a tortoise swim?

Not according to 118118!! (can someone lend me a tortoise to see if they're right?)

Jeezus - anyone would think I was bloody OLD or summat......

I happen to know I'm younger than at least FIVE regulars on here.

Although I am fiercly proud to be an official "grumpy old man", at least according to the missus....

Hein Gericke is good stuff. I've had a couple of the Master suits over the years, and they rock in terms of warmth and waterproofness (i.e. they are good at both).

It's a crushingly expensive item of course (£800-ish?). But if you ride a lot in winter, I suggest it's worth it.

And when it's really cold, you simply must buy some Klan heated clothing...

Al,
This means buggering about with Electrickery and stuff!!!

No!!! I think that my mechanical ineptitude is well known by most regular forumites...I'm not even going to think about attempting ANYTHING along those lines..

If I attempt that It won't end up as a SHINYBUSA it'll be glowing from the flames that will have erupted from beneath the seat, and knowing my luck they'll erupt with me sat on it, I know it's Xmas, but , not the sort of roasted nuts I want thanks!!!
