Re: WSB versus BSB tuning regs?

Quote:

Anyone know if the engine tuning regs are different enough between BSB and WSB to account for (some) of the difference in the lap times at Brands between the two championships?

Roughly speaking, 1.8 seconds between the best WSB and Shane Byrne's fastest lap at Brands BSB round in May?

I'd have thought it was the track conditions in May and the tyres Pirelli brought along for BSB versus the WSB ones would potentially make a difference, as well as how hard Shakey was being pushed to generate thise times. But the engine power certainly does make a difference - compare Supersport 600 with Superstock 600 pole times at Brands this weekend.

SuperSPORT 600 pole time: 1:28

SuperSTOCK 600 pole time: 1:31

Some of that will be the Supersport pole sitter just being a bit better than the Superstock pole sitter, but not all of it.

However, I guess with a Superbike the difference is between more power than you need in most places and a LOT more power than you need in the same places. Sykes did better than OK, assuming he was running his BSB engine today (was he?), and we know that he is generally not quite as quick as Shakey on the Ducati.

1.8 seconds plus or minus a bit is easily credible, isn't it...
