GSXR 750 K4 Front brake Judder!!!!!!!
|
|
Apologies for any cock ups in this post, fairly new to biking and completely new to this forum I brought a gsxr 750 k4 a month ago and its started to judder under braking from the front. It gets worse the longer I ride. Went into my suzuki dealer and explained. Not taking much interest they booked it in to to be looked at in ten days time. Gutted, the suns out and I need to be out trying to get my knee somewhere near the ground Any advice?

It could possibly be warped discs. I'm afraid I would put my foot down and make the dealer check the bike earlier they sold it to you and they are responsible for it. it doesn't take a tech five Min's to check for a warped disc if they are they can order new discs and pads in time for when you have it booked. Does the lever pulse when you get the judder (you'll feel the brake lever pulsing in and out slightly), If so you are looking at warped discs no question, if not the brakes may need cleaning or the front forks may require attention or adjustment. I'm betteing on warped discs. Don't take crap off your dealer they sold the bike they fix it and make sure it's quickly new discs could cost upwards of £300. I've had a couple of GSXR discs warp but only on trackdays and always always found EBC prolite discs and matched HH pads work well and be cheaper than STD.

I'm with chappers! Get back to your dealer and bang your fist on the table! DONT do what I did - get fed up waiting for my dealer to sort it, get replacement discs off e-bay, only to find they are warped worse than the old ones!!!!

The thing is, you need to check what sort of warranty you got with the bike. It sounds like warped discs (or disc), it's not uncommon on gsxrs, but after a month, the dealer will take a fair bit of persuading that it's not a "wear & tear" issue unless you've covered only nominal mileage. If you get nowhere, and have the tools & are confident you can do the job properly,(assuming you will have got the discs checked for runout) take the discs off, give them a good soak in brake cleaner, then gently tap the bobbins one by one (avoiding damaging them of course). What you want to achieve is to get rid of the compacted brake dust which has built up between the bobbins, disc and carrier when hot (and expanded) leaving (after time) no room for the disc to contract. So tap & rinse a good few times until you get no more dust escaping from the bobbins, dry off thoroughly (preferably with an airline) and refit. I've done this a fair few times, usually saving the discs. It does take a while to do thoroughly mind.

Thanks chappers. I was thinking of any dealers warranty which came with the bike. If they give a flat "no" it may be worth talking a deal on parts and/or labour as a goodwill gesture. Personally, i'd be seeing this as a good excuse to fit some wave discs, but thats just me!

DON'T DO IT! Have a chat and a laugh, or at least ask how the guy you're talking to is etc etc to get him on side. If you go in demanding stuff, they won't be able to wait to tell you there's nothing they can do.... I've been there. Be nice to people when you want something. Did your mother not teach you anything?

I think I had something similar to this a bit with my long termer back in 2004, and it wasn't the discs. It can be down to the suspension on that bike - have you been fiddling with the adjusters? Check all the adjusters are on standard and see if it still does it. Is it still on stock tyres? Are they in good nick?
I'm trying to remember when mine did it, but I think it was mostly when going quite hard, on track. It's a while back now though.
I'm not being as much help as I could be here, sorry. Will keep thinking.

Well?
For the short version see the last two paragraphs!
I took my gixxer in at 9am to the suzuki dealer I brought it from, to be told the slot I had booked was filled as they were busy. I said I had booked it in early and was the only one in the diary at that time! Anyway I left it with them, for them to call me when it was done. ( They couldnt actually find any record of me buying the bike from them! ) I passed the dealer nearing lunchtime to see my bike un moved outside the shop with a couple of chavs checking it out. Passing the shop at four in the afternoon I noticed it had been moved and having recieved no phone call I decided to call in. I was promptly told they had looked at it and nothing was wrong! I was Stunned as I had to ride it to the shop using the back brake alot as the vibration was so bad pulling to a stop. I protested! Next I was told they noticed a vibration but it would pass an MOT so they were not going to do anything about it. Again I protested that surely a bad vibration cant be Ok. Explaining again that I had only just brought it from them and it was under warranty I wasnt happy. A few phone calls were made and they have eventually decided to replace the discs free of charge. Apparently the new discs will be from the aniversary edition of the bike as they are better quality and grooved. Please tell me if I am being unfair but I have waited 8 years to be able to get a bike and this is just not what I wanted! I am totally addicted though! (If a little crap)

Re: GSXR 750 K4 Front brake Judder!!!!!!!

New discs are new discs well done looks like they were trying to wiggle out of it well done. but i'm afraid after having that much trouble getting them to sort the problem I wouldn't go back. out of interest did they put a new mot on the bike because if they did and get funny about it you could take you'r bike to another dealer who carries out mots to run it up on the brake tester and see if it would pass. because if they have issued a shaky MOT the ministry Of Transport would be interested and get involved causing them lots of grief( I was a mech/MOT tester in a previous life)

Re: GSXR 750 K4 Front brake Judder!!!!!!!

And they all lived happily ever after
Sounds like you had to jump through a few hoops but it's good to hear that (eventually) you got what you (and your bike) deserve Well done for toughing it out with 'em By the sound of things, it's not exactly five star service you've recieved. Any more of that and it'll be name and shame time!
Happy braking!

As far as I know they didn`t, it was the opinion of their mechanic. It is due for a MOT in a months time so I will take it elsewhere and see what they think.

No bother
I'd be giving my GSXR an early birthday present if I were you. Get it mot'd as soon as you can. If there's anything else wrong, you "friendly" dealer won't want to be giving you much help after another months riding. "Well it was fine when we sold it to you" will be ringing in your ears for months!

I had a K4 1000 and several others I know also had the same problem. apparently its caused by the pad rocking on the middle piston although when I changed to braided hoses and sintered pads it disappeared. I doubt any shop will agree that a fault is present.

What middle piston? The K4 GSX-R750 and 1000s have four-piston front calipers. Are you confusing them with the K0 1000 and its six-piston calipers?

Good sound bit of advice there.........
Oh, apart from the fact that it isn't.......
And the fault was repaired a month and a half ago.....
Good try though.
Oh, hang on......
No it wasn't.
