Not that I'm a sceptical bastard but I'm beginning to think us Norfolk bikers might be the subject of a hoax.
Earlier this year BBC East ran a piece about the local tax collectors, sorry, I mean safety camera partnership having camera vans that could nick speeding bikes. It did this by having additional cameras that track a speeding bike as it passes via two cameras on the side of the van and then record the number plate with a forward facing one at the front.
Thing is I've been past several vans this summer and none of them appeared to have the tell tale camera bubbles on the side of the van. Neither have I been subject to a NIP which I think is more telling. So any other Norfolk bikers or visitors noticed these things yet or was the whole thing a propaganda hoax? Any ideas?

Mate I posted the youtube vid about this that was on the BBC-the vid was a great cause of controversy and has since vanished. Many agencies have asked Norfolk Police for it(it also caused a couple of accidents) but they havnt produced it-and yes the biker in it to all intents wasa ploddy pretending to be a biker-so yes Norfolk seems to have a prob with Speed Vans etc.

Thanks, I thought as much. I was thinking of doing a bikesafe course as well. Not sure I want to mix with a bunch of lying fuckers now though, or will this hoax be the idea of some dipstick that is out of touch with reality rather than the coppers running bikesafe?

It'll be the idea of some fuckwit who has a funny handshake and one trouser leg shorter than the other.
The guys who do Bikesafe are pretty passionate about what they do, it's like any job really I suppose, the bosses ALWAY'S have good ideas that piss off the blokes on the ground

I would still take care and look out for any sus vans-Ive had it on good authority that some UK forces are a little strapped for cash and it is not unknown for them to park a van at a well know speeding site-lock it up and leave it(but without the kit inside-Just like some cams are dummy cams) Next time you see one prehaps in Avon and Som-opps sorry, knock on the door and ask"Good Morning" see if you get an answer

Where i live in Germany, the local authorities operate there own moblie speed camaras, more so that the police force. They also publish in local newspapers what areas will be targeted by these cameras at certain times (not giving exact locations or timings, just the area and time period). This helps in a way as it means that a large number of people will be aware that their area will be targeted, therefore tend to drive more carefully. Some may argue that giving this information is a bad thing.
The question is, do the authorities in the UK do anything like this? If not then i believe they should, causing a large number of people to drive slowly as they are aware that a camera could be just around the corner is better than just catching drivers in the act.........prevention is better than cure.

They print in the local rags here what roads are going to be targeted the following week, but it's fairly vague. For example it'll say next week the tax collectors will be on the A11, A140, A1065 etc.
I suppose that's better than nothing though.

Same here. The local rag just puts the area in which they will be and which days. Not very helpful really. I had a rather heated argument with my boss over the subject of speed cameras. I told him that if he didn't want a fine and points then don't speed. It's quite simple really, then he went into one about my driving. I told him that if I get caught speeding then I'll take the fine and points without moaning. It's breaking the law, if you can't do the time don't do the crime.
