rsv rear brake!! I can't find it!!
      #30394 - 10/08/2008 09:36

Hi all,I lost my rear brake and can't seem to get it back. it started to lose performance after i changed the rear wheel so i thought i must have got something on the discs and then onto the pads so i gave everything a real good clean but nothing. So i tried to bleed the rear. I pumped and pumped forever, got out all the old fluid( which was quite bad) new fluid in, air all out, but still i can't get it hard! (THE REAR BRAKE!!!) Does anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried undoing the caliper and suspending it above the master cylinder and then bleeding it to make sure you got all the air out.

Is all the linkage at the pedal end (before the master cylinder) free and working? I had a similar problem with my track fireblade which turned out to be the linkage. It wasn't moving freely so all the pedal pressure was being wasted before the master cylinder even got working.

It would lock the wheel when turning it by hand but next to nothing when being ridden at road speeds.

Rear brakes on Mille's rarely work for very long, it's a well documented problem, there are various fixes on the Aprilia forums ranging from difference master cylinders, difference calipers, bleeding techniques, try every fix and find one that works for you.

i've tried everything, turning the caliper upside down, heavy weights on pedal over night even tried a brake dance!! lucky milles have amazing engine braking, so i don't use the rear that much, just on hill starts and the like. big ham, have you had trouble with yours? what tyres do you recomend?

Mine just never really worked that well, and when I had the bike it had BT-010's on it, which have since been superceded by th 014 and now 016.

Most people tend to run Pilot Powers or Corsa III's though.

I'm afraid its a case of 'they all do that sir'. I even got a lovely letter from the folks at Noale saying that they had fully investigated their rear brakes and there was not need for a recall.

As bigham says, plenty of fixes out there. I just had an annual service done and my rear brake has re-appeared.....its a case of new fluid and bleeding as well as you can.

Re tyres - I run Michelin Pilots and they are great.
