Suzuki TLR 1000

Thanks guys for the last answers, right as you know i bought the above bike about two months ago now and its always back fired on over run will this affect the valves? or engine ?

Went out with my mate the other day at knight time he says it looks awsome when it back fires it s like a flame thrower, not sure what mods its had done to it apart from the scorpion exhausts.
I find the front suspension very bouncy any cheap ideas?

IRC the fueling was never 100% on the early TLs so a Power commander may be appropriate or at least getting the valve clearances checked, and a service. As for the forks refresh the oil and set the sag correctly that should help. You'll be amazed the difference a fork full of decent quality fresh oil does for the suspension, if that fails maybe some slightly heavier fork oil to increse the damping qualities.

so the backfiring isnt a trait of the bike then , it runs quite well just on overrun backfires and throws flames.....

when i got the bike the left hand fork had the adjuster screwed right out on just the one side so i thought i would even it out.
You would have thought buying it from a dealer it woulkd ave been set up as standard

My V-twin pops and bangs a bit on the overrun as well.
I think it's a v-twin thing
It sounds great.

Don't panic i was worried about the same thing on my SV thou I've got scorpions on that too and it is still running 115bhp and I've been told it shouldn't cause any damage. My advice is to keep the baffles in the exhaust as the plod don't like you going down the road with two foot flames coming out of the exhaust.

Just a thought...It's not a 'South African' import is it?

The popping an banging is just unburn't fuel meeting oxygen in the exhaust and ingiting, My B12 does it all the time, It was on the dyno a couple of weeks ago and he said it pretty common, especially if you have a small leak on the exhaust somewhere.

Les!
