Dodgy brakes
      #38288 - 27/01/2009 22:59

Did a few track days last year and am now properly hooked! Just planning a few dates for 2009, however my brakes might need a bit of attention. I had a bit of brake shudder under heavy braking on the track - seemed to lose braking power coupled with a shudder (front brake). After realeasing the lever the brakes worked fine again. Happened twice over the course of the day. Not good for the confidence...or my shorts! Want to sort this out for some worry free track days.

My weapon of choice is a GSXR750 K4 - brake pads, discs, fluid levels all look fine. Any ideas???

Have the discs checked to see if they are warped first it's easy enough to do your self if you have a dail guage and a clamp and if you have one you'll know how to do it if not take it to a reputable shop.
another thing to do is to strip and clean your brake calipers brake cleaner and a tooth brush is good for this pump the pistons out a bit (not too far as they'll pop the seals)then scrub each piston to remove the caked on brake dust clean the pads and then dab a little copperslip on the backs and on the pins obviouls push the pistons back in (this can be a pain as when you push one in another may pop out again I tend to use a small G clamp and strip of wood which helps.
