Exhaust Valve on a GSXR 750
      #38289 - 27/01/2009 23:09

Anyone know what these do? I took my k7 to mike local bike shop to get a yoshi slipon and power commander fitted and a custom map made.

They have since told me that the motor on the exhaust valve is seized and they have suggested leaving it open permanently.

What's going to happen now? Is this ok? Does it screw anything up?

It won't hurt the motor, but you may find it a bit more gutless in the bottom end.

I'm surprised the ECU hasn't started displaying fault codes yet, they do usually when the valve/servo goes.

It's something I'd personally get fixed, or you can junk it completely if you fit a full race exhaust system.

It's a common problem on them Biggles had his exhaust replaced under warranty I believe (over a grands worth of down pipes!!) and I'm having the same problem on my K7 600. Did you never get the FI light coming on when starting? My valve now squeaks when I turn the ignition on. If it doesn't then my FI light comes on. Usually when the engine and exhaust has warmed up a little, if I turn the engine off and restart then the valve works fine.
I think it's more to do with noise reduction (or so I read somewhere). There was also a post about how to disconnect it somewhere arund here. It doesn't make a noticable drop in power or torque apparently. I'll get mine seen to tomorrow when it goes in for it's service.

yeah I used to get the FI light and I spoke to suzuki when I took the bike for a service and they mentioned an issue with this but I thought it was resolved because the light stopped coming on.

will i feel it even with a slipon (cat removed) and a power commander?

Not bad, don't think you'll miss the valve with that output!

My bike ain't got one but then I have a full system I don't miss it at all, From what I understood they are primarily for emmissions and sound controll although they are reputed to change the tuned length of the system depending on where they are to help midrange fucked if I know if it works. the valve on my R6 was removed and I never noticed any difference at all.
If you like how the bike goes and feels go with the flow I say. As for fitting a fullsystem over a decat pipe and slip on unless you are after saving a few ounces hardly worth it Suzuki spent a lot of time tuning the exhaust for the bike and for the price you won't gain much.
Only bikes I'd seriously consider fitting a full system to are the new R6s and ZX6s that have built in cats.

I got into a bit of barny over this on gixxerjunkies. The valve is used to quieten the bike, but it *does* have a positive effect on mid range IF you have your after market can set up to use it.

Essentially by removing it, you have converted the system to a pretty light (the headers are titanium), very well made straight through exhaust. You *will* have gained some top end BHP and lost a little mid range. Yoshi recommend what you have done.

If you like how it feels, as Chappers says, leave it at that, a full system is really unnecessary, as it probably won't give you much more power and cost a lot plus another schlepp to a dyno.

Thanks guys.

I guess I am pretty happy with it the way it is.

Will see how it goes and if I notice.
