safety gear
      #38522 - 04/02/2009 19:57

I am absolutely amazed at the absolute madness of some bikers. Today I saw two bikes on potentially icey road sufaces wearing cotton pants and normal shoes. The sooner it is made legal that safety clothes are worn the sooner people will not lose their job, screw up their lives and not sponge of society.
Do you agree or disagree
do you agree safety clothes should be legal
You may choose 2
yes
no

Although I agree that wearing inappropriate gear is stupid It should be at the end of the day the riders choice and responsibility we have enough nanny state as it is.

And we can all guess where the no vote came from.

Go away with your idiotic suggestions.

If you want to live a life without risk then fucking stay in the womb and get your Mother to stay in bed.

I expect you are a good friend of that tosser who goes around videoing people doing things on their bikes he doesn't like and sending them to the enforcers.

Personal choice, Personal responsibility.
I gave up wanting Mummy and Daddy telling me what to do when I left home.

And don't give me that crap about it costing the tax payer either. Or do you want to make it illegal to be fat? As they cost the tax payer hundreds or thousands of times more.

I'm of the same mind as makka & chappers. It should be up to the individual to make up their own mind what to wear. But cotton pants?Do these people not own trousers?they must have been freezing in just their undercrackers.

Jeans are made of cotton.
He's probably just trying to sensationalise.

And "pants"?
Damn johny foreigner, so has nothing to say about our legal system anyway.

I am with Makka, but it much milder tones. No we really don't need laws thank you. There are enough already. (BTW welcome to the forum).

A really good thing to campaign on would be to revise the design of street furniture, plus how and where it is placed. The sides of our roads are cluttered with lethal, badly designed, poorly placed stationary objects.

Much signage is now put up purely for 'just in case' legal reasons and not as information.

Cut down on poles right beside the road, barriers made of wire and slick manhole covers on bends and you will instantly reduce deaths and injuries to both bikers and drivers. [dismounts from soap box with as much dignity as he can muster to go and vote nay]

I'm all for as much safety gear as possible - but through education, not legislation, so I voted "no".

We don't need laws forcing us to wear leather, armour, boots, gloves etc.

We just need to show folk who ride what the possible consequences are of a low-medium speed off in shorts and trainers, and then allow them to make their own minds up.

And not whinge when the worst does happen......

This debate has got a bit to go yet!! The state i live in has so many nanny ,cottonwool soft cock laws - and we bikers are slugged with insane on road taxs and stupid traffic laws.. not to mention these cheese cutter SAFETY fences the dickheads are now building on our motorways, grrrr The last thing we need are saftey gear laws aswell. I have lost skin off my back from a dirt bike stack when i was a kid so im a bit off the idea of doing it again. Thats my 2cents.
