Buying in the UK
      #38971 - 19/02/2009 09:06

I wont make any apologies about the fact that I have on recent occasions bought stuff in the UK and bought it home due to its lack of avalabiltiy here. Now things seemed to have got even better due to the crap pound exchange rate. So with a new bike on the way I drew up a list and went on the sites of HPS-Demon Tweeks and another one in Wales(cant remember the name)
The list:
Tail tidy-here 100 quid-UK about 30 to 40
Exhaust Hangers. Here 290 quid there about 60
Knee sliders-can only get Sidi 60 quid-plain blue Whizz 25
Then the bad news(yes yes I know Ive banged on about this before)-postage was a whopping 71 quid+ VAT
So I says" Just pop them in a Jiffy bag and post it to me" No can do
So my dear daughter did just that from a bikeshop local to her- total price-5-65p- Amazingly HPs and Demon Tweeks say they post anywhere in the UK for a Fiver???? but wanted about 27 quid PER ITEM to post over here???? DONT THEY WANT THE BUSINESS???? its a mad world indeed

An american company wanted to charge me $40 postage to send me a HEADLIGHT BULB

I bought it from another US company they supply. Bulb $2 more, postage $31 less.

I wrote to let them know the good news

As a firm who ships world-wide I can tell you postage rates go astronomical above 2Kg of weight. That's the reason. Above 2Kg you're generally looking at DHL/FEDEX etc where they START at £35 for the first 1/2 kilo, then so much per 1/2 kilo depending where the package is going. Get out of the mainstream...and prices go up through the roof. Freight to Malta is 3 times higher than freight to, say, France. Gibraltar? Forget it. We often ship FOC to the UK, but Europe can't be done. The rest of the world -- no way; the costs just have to be passed on. We shipped a Battery charger to Denmark the other day, cost the customer £25 freight and we still lost £4 on it. Hope this helps you understand why
