I asked my friend at Alfs to let me know when they got and RSV1000R in the shop which they now have as I fancy another V2(Great bike engine IMO). I'm hoping to get up there some time during the week to ride it and decide if I like it.
It's a silver Factory so is kitted out with Ohlins suspension OZ wheels and Brembo radial calipers, the paint isn't the "Blue Oyster bar" kind on many RSVs if you get my drift, it has 4500 miles and a set of Akrapovic cans usual alarm etc.
What should I look out for apart from the usual crash damage and service history any hints would be appreciated IE electrical niggles issues with finish, telltale rattles and knocks.
Can't be as bad as that fucking 999 I had can it. if so I'll stick with the ZX or look at a 848 it's nearest equivalent IMO.

Starting issues due to small knacked batteries the only thing I have heard about. Plus rough finish on the standard wheels. Niether a real problem. Nice bike.

Go for it. Aprilia great V-twin great. But then I might be a bit biased.

nice
We just bought a year old mini cooper with only 2,000 miles on the clock.
It has an average speed indicator that did read 18mph! So I think we know it was not raced nor will it ever dip that low again.

As Biggles has said the motor puts a big strain on the motor on start up, so check it's in tip top condition. They can lunch the starter clutch if you try to start them with a weak battery.
Check the fork seals on the Ohlins. If the bikes been left sat for a while they can start to weap, only replace the Ohlins seals though.
The finish of the nuts and bolts is crap so that'll give you an indication of how well it's been cared for. The finish on the bigger bits it good however Aprilia don't lacquer over their decals and I've heard that some can come adrift with some over zealous jet washing.
The motor is a dry sump rotax unit. Very reliable, just make sure you check the level properly as it's a dry sump, so it's best checked with the motor idling(on the mille at least).
Water ingrest into the clocks isn't unheard of, although it's much improved when compared to the early bikes.
Some owners with a 180 section rear to speed up the steering. Don't bother with it is the advice from a dunlop tyre technican. If it has a 6 inch rim fit a 190, if it's a 5.5 inch rim fit a 180. IIRC yours should have a 6 inch rim.
Horn and indicator buttons are the wrong way around. It's really annoying when you go to beep and someone and in a fit of rage turn the indicator on instead.
Reg/Rec failure isn't unheard of, but it's pretty rare.
Can't mention a mille without mentioning the rear brake. It either doesn't work at all, works slightly with no feeling, or if you overfill it with fluid it'll lock the brake on until it cools down. By overfill I mean fill it up to the "upper" level on the res. The M/C is right next to the engine so the fluid gets a ver tough time. The only real way to get some sort of rear brake action is frequent fluid changes and reverse bleeding it. The bleed nipple on the rear brake is also in a stupid place to add to the fun.
Going down one tooth on the front sprocket makes town work far more bearable and less shunty.
HTH a little.

Chappers, you might want to check out thetony's post in Bike Questions under Brembo/Aprilia RSV Brakes... Seems there's an issue with non-serviceable calipers.

Yea I read it thanks Ninja I'm generally quite anal about keeping my front bakes clean and new calipers are available from AF1 for $249 each UPS global mail is $40 add 3.7% import duty and 15% VAT that's £237.98 to my front door for one caliper or £444.33 for the pair (radial calipers). not too concerned about the back brake very rarely use it.

Ouch!! Worth a little extra attention in my book...
Currently giving my bank a hammering with repairs & maintenance on my 9R. List of jobs as long as my arm & I'm half way up my forearm and £400 lighter. Do all my own maintenance (& tech/sparks for friends) so it's all spares! Had a new 525 (original spec) chain from a friend but needed sprockets, but the new O.E.'s from Kwak are 530's, so I'll need a chain as well now... Then disks & pads... New rear Rennsport... Maxton shock revalve...
Consolation... It'll all be worth it when I turn the key & drop the visor...

I prefer to do my own work too gets done right that way. I thought the calipers wer pretty cheap for Brembo kit.

True, bit of a bargain for Brembo, was quoted £370 for a pair of Tokico's for my ZZR600 2yr ago... Did a major rebuild on them instead. New pistons/seals, refinished, braided hoses...
Which reminds me... got to order the braids for the 9R...

Chappers if you wanna know more about the on board computer, pipe up and ask for instructions before yer test ride. The battery/charging system info readout versus how the bike actually starts/sounds priming up/manages a start with headlights on have always been a deciding factor for me when buying RSVs and will answer most q's about reg/rec and battery performance. Also Try pulling a few connectors for a condition check. I do not reccommend putting yer jet wash on even the newest Aprilias and if someone else has preffered the 'lazy wash' walk on mate. Plenty of em will become available soon enough with the v4 being on a boat comming our way now. Also check swingarm for dents behind exhausts, the 'arm is beautiful but really prone to dents from drops. Don't run from this one (depending on severity), but it is a prime bargaining point for a good haggle. Hope it's a belter sir, enjoy and get some good pics up for us. Also get a headight upgrade kit in it, at least the very best gas bulbs, IMO the standard beam set up is pretty bollox at night. T

Had a look over the bike today seems very tidy and had a recent fork job done on it by Ktech apparently some muppet over tightened the spindle clamps snapping them and they needed replacing other than that the bike is clean although I saw signs that it had fallen over on the RH side but nothing serious could just have been marked putting the bike in the garage TBH tiny mark on F brake lever and RH air duct was new, foot pegs unmarked but not new, no scrapes otherwise it had been ridden in the wet maybe once or twice. So fill me in on the on board computer. We did check the saved top speed 188 it said. All I'm waiting on now is a ride and wether we can sort a deal.

Well, it certainly looks the business, chappers. That is, unfortunately, the sum total of my knowledge about Aprilias in general and RSVs in particular.

If those black hand guards on the side of the fairing at the front aren't standard that is a good sign of a sensible owner IMO.
It looks great.

I think they are STD air ducts if the last owner was sensible it will get a shock if I buy it. It's very touch and got ATM I'm not doing the deal if it isn't right and it's subject to a test ride. My bike is a shit hot ride and I've sunk over 4k into it so far. I'd be taking a step back in performance but a step forwards in getting another V2.

That's the Factory by the way, the R was the base model. The Factory is the trick version.
The black splitters on the front are standard.
I can't remember what the standard battery size is on that model, but if it's the 12 amp, I know that you can get a 14 amp that goes straight in and is less marginal when starting.
