Has anyone has any experience of the BMW F800S, I do like the look of them, so while I was waiting for the other half thought I'd just go and have a look....
Well I've been talked into a test ride for a couple of hours, and I know they'll try and get me to buy one,and I know I'm weak when surrounded by new bikes....must resist. must resist

Depends on what you want. For a middleweight roadster that's a bit different, they're actually pretty good. Loads of accessories, the engine is nice and strong, handling pretty sweet, brakes good. You'll enjoy the test ride I bet.

Thanks Alan, I'll let you know, it does sound a bit like something I'm after, slightly different without being stupid, I need a bike to be reliable as I use it almost every day. I'm not sure, but I reckon chappers doesn't think much of them

That's true actually. You do get used to them in time. The horn is rubbish though - you never use it enough to get used to it being in the wrong place, plus, when you need it, you don't have time to think about where it should be...
I think from next year they'll all have normal indicators. Not sure if the 2009 bikes have them actually, let us know!

Never ridden one.
I'm not biased, honestly. Three of the worst motorcycles I have ever ridden, one of them the worst I have ever owned, have been BMWs (an agricultural R80, a K100RT flying brick and my accursed K1200GT). In addition, I'm shocked and appalled at BMW's handling of its many quality control problems, not least the self-dismantling forks on the early F650GS & Dakar.
On the other hand, my R1200GS was brilliant, and my current K1200GT is better...

I did ask about the indicators, the salesman told me that the 1300s, as featured in the magazine, have had what we would call a normal indicator switch, but the rest of the range are remaining the same for 2009, now whether you choose to believe the salesman is up to you, I'll let you know, apparently the demonstrator will be a 2009 model.
That is is anyone interested

I had the test ride this morning, albeit on a ST, I'm not sure if there is much difference, I certainly didn't like the matt grey finish and the whole thing was really 'plasticky' as if it would shatter or crack if you pressed it too hard, and I'm afraid I found it a bit dull, it didn't excite me at all.
Yes, I can see the indicators could be irratating, but even on my short test ride I got the hang of them, even if I did signal the wrong way and hoot on a roundabout
I honestly couldn't say it was better than my Fazer, I now don't know what I want and I'm really disappointed, mind you not half as much as I would have been if I'd just paid £7,000.
They are telling me to wait and have a ride on the 'S', but is there any difference?

Aprilia Shiver 750. I have one and it's fantastic. Or if you prefer the look, a Dorsoduro. Same great v-twin engine, slightly higher gearing and apparently a different set of (3) maps to give more torque and lower down the rev range. If you need a fairing they are making a GT version of the Shiver now which is also v. pretty

No - the S and ST are identical apart from fairing lowers and (IIRC) different bars. Engine, suspension, brakes are all the same. If you didn't like the ST you won't like the S.

Thanks Alan, that's pretty much what I thought, I'm struggling to find something better than my Fazer now that I've replaced the suspension, may as well stick with it unless you have any ideas
