as some of you may remember my drz hasnt exactly been my luckiest bike so ive decided to get shot and get something a bit sportier and faster for the summer. only one problem though and thats budget. i literally have about £1200 max to spend. ive spotted a zxr750 h1 (on a f reg) at a local garage, just wondering if any of you guys know of any problems or could point out a few things i should look for (apart from the usual) when i go to have a butchers?

Classic status? It should be.
Really nice bike, a true Kawasaki race rep.
Apart from the obvious with bikes that are 20 years old, be aware of:
Most have aftermarket rear shocks - the originals were very hard at the rear, and most owners didn't like them, and changed them pronto. Although, if it does have the original still in place, I doubt that being too hard will be a problem!
There were some reports of the CDI box going tits up - if it's fucked, the bike probably won't rev much past 7 or 8k rpm, and will feel like it's been restricted/limited. Will you find a new CDI? Second hand, perhaps.
Be careful sourcing spares - the H2 model was released the very next year, and had enough engine, frame and fuel system mods to ensure that many parts are NOT interchangable between the two.
Oh, and make sure it's green........

A friend of mine had one and both loved and hated it, loved the engine and that it handled so well and hated the riding position.
I cannot say the position worried me, when I tried it, but he found he was taking too much weight on his wrists after about 40 mins.
The negative that struck me about it is that at a standstill/lowspeed it is heavy. For instance compare the thickness of the fairing to what is on offer now and it is about three times as thick. The weight is not an issue while on the move, just felt heavy through traffic to me in comparison to my thou.
The only problem my mate had was with an aftermarket alarm which he had removed. The mechanicals were fine. He paid about £1200 two years ago and also got a set matching leathers thrown in too, plus an ill fitting single seat cover. So the price point is about right.
I thought it was a great bike, lots of character and plenty of potential to make your license worry and yes, it must be green.

I think you be better trying to find a decent 10 year younger ZX6R or early 636.

is it possible to pick up an early 636 for £1200?
i'll go for anything 600cc (or above) really doesnt have to be a kawasaki...
EDIT: just had a look and i'll be lucky if i can find a 636 for that money. bugger.

Not surprised about the 636, but Chappers has a point about the ZX6R, that is worth a look.

gulp.
you might need a purple helmet to go with it
I have never seen one *that* colour before. It does *look* in good nick. Do as much home work on it as possible, try and find out where in the US it came from-some states restrict engine power.
There must be a gazzilion UK models to do a price comparison against-which begs the question, why not go for a uk one? Is this one very cheap?
EDIT Hang-on that pic is from Australia!?!

You'd need to replace the springs!
