BikeSafe London - any good ?
      #40609 - 26/03/2009 09:32

Being as I'm probably best described as a Late Returner, I was thinking of brushing up on my traffic skills...

Anyone done one of the Met's BikeSafe training days ?

I had a chat to the nice copper on the stand at the eXcel show, and for £30 it seemed worth a go.

I did a couple of Honda MAC training days when they were running, which were excellent.

Whaddaya reckon ?

There is also LAM- london advanced motorcyclist, have a look here

Practical bunch, with ride outs as well as serious training, but more expensive to do at £109 or £89 if you are under 26.

Apologies, a bit late gettin' in on this one.

I can't speak for BikeSafe in London, but I am involved with Bikesafe in Sussex through my firebike activities.

It's a one day assessment with the morning being taken up with theory input (collision causation, cornering, making progress etc.) and the afternoon involves an assessed ride with a class 1 advanced Police motorcyclist, usually on a two students to one cop ratio. A full written debrief following the ride and a certificate of completion once a feedback form has been returned. You also get a goodie bag (dvds, leaflets and info on advanced riding).

Check out my website and follow the links for more info.

I was going to do the Met one, it's £20 cheaper than the Kent police version. That one goes from Coldharbour in Maidstone, only 13 miles from where I live, but I was swayed by the cheaper Met police one.

Sorry, late on this, been away.

I did Bikesafe with the Met several years ago, when it was a relatively new initiative, and can report that it was a top day. Just hope it's still as good now as it was.......

Yep, they're still at it, just more expensive than some other forces, I would have thought they'd be making enough money from the kojaks with kodaks I keep seeing around.

I did the one in "Bromley" last year, was a decent day out... After they have a quick look over your bike*, its biscuits and theory in the morning, ride out, lunch, more riding, then back to the "Classroom" for a debrief...

Got a pack of schtuffs (certificate, keyring/s, sidestand puck, offers leaflet, et cetera) at the end, which was around 4-ish if I remember correctly.

* - They aren't overly stringent with the bike check, someone had ripped half of my number plate sticker off of the backing plate, and they didn't comment that the tax disk on the bike was well out of date (I did, and still do, have a current one, but not attached) but as long as it is roadworthy and you have a valid license.......

I've already recommended it to a couple of dozen other bikers I know...

--------------------
I've seen the light... It was green, flashy and attached to a Network Interface Card...

Whenever someone says "You can't miss it" I invariably do...
