Couple of questions regarding ScottOiler and Rear Brake Pedal
      #41088 - 07/04/2009 08:18

Hi all,
First time posting on here but have been a vivid reader for a years or so. I drive a 98 CBR 600 F3, my second bike and i love her to bits. Anyways, during the winter i had a wee slide on some black ice and it has bent my rear brake pedal, i was wondering where would the best place be to buy a new replacement one. No great damage only a fewminor scuffs but it broke my heart. Also i had a scott oiler fitted about 3/4 months ago and it was running great til i had to top it up and since it has not pumping the oil through, any ideas on what could be wrong, i originally thought the vacuum pipe had come loose but i am just learning about the mechanics of a bike.

Somewhere like David Silver Spares or Ebay is probably the best place for the brake pedal.

Unless about the Scottoiler to be fair.

Ebay for the lever, pattern (non genuine) are fine - just make sure you hold onto all the nuts, bolts, bits and bobs from the original incase the cheapo replacement comes without (i've learned the hard way here). The breaker section at the back of 'bike trader' is good too and always worth a try...you get to talk to actual human beings an' all! Check the brake light swith is still ok?

I think you have just 'air locked' the scotoiler while filling it up (bloody big bubble in yer sticky pipes mate), although you'll have a better idea how much fucking around with the carb'vaccum hose side of things you might have done while tampering with the resevoir!?
Also some scotoiler kits are notorious for being tempremental re: angle of resevoir installation, level of fluids etc... From memory the company have really good helpdesk setup and cracking website. Many people struggle with the perfect set up and vaccum side if the install' so they are well used to enquiries gallore. Get a big syringe, if there is no obvious bleed system and it shouldn't be too hard to get it pumping again. I'm just in Troon if you get stuck. I had an 'oiler system on a 'blade a while ago. It worked well but was a messy bastard! I gave up after the first cartridge ran out and went back to lovely clean wax and shorter chain life!

Your oiler sounds as if it's air locked. Look at the flow rate adjuster on the reservior, turn it to "prime" then put the bike on a paddock stand. Start her up and click into first gear. With the rear spinning, keep a close eye on the oiler nozzle at the rear - as soon as you see a drop of oil (usually only need to wait a few seconds) rotate the flow rate adjuster back to normal (one or two for the spring/summer) and the job's a good 'un!

I had a scottoiler on my ZZR.. you have an air bubble in the system...it happened to me as well....

DO NOT TAKE THE TOP OFF THE SCOTTOILER WHERE THE FLOW RATE GUIDE IS!!!!!!!

ME BAD........did this and an entire touring reservoir dropped all over my rear tyre!!!!

It sounds like the level has got a bit low and has sucked a bit of air into the line...piece of piss to sort out...unplug the line at the very end, where it oils the chain, and hold the open end level with the actual reservoir , the bubble will expel itself....(after you have filled the res with oil)...
