cbr flat spot
      #41254 - 12/04/2009 08:31

Hi all i have a 1998 cbr 600 fw. Which runs fine except that when im in 4th or 5th gear i have a flat spot between 6000 and 7000 rpm and in 6th gear between 6000 and 7500. There are no mods on the bike and it runs fine before and after and in lower gears. Is this a common problem and is there anything i can do about it. Any info would be much appreciated cheers Nick

Could be the tuning from the factory it could be to pass emmisions and noise tests. If not check your air filter.

I ride a 1998 cbr600fw aswell, mine does not have a flat spot, it just pulls like a train right through the rev range, from about 4500rpm. Mine is standard apart from K&N air filter. My old Cbr600fm had a similar problem, it turned out to be crap in the carbs, after cleaning the carbs and running on a tank with redex, it was fine.

Air filter would be my starting place tho
