Ok, so, I sold my 2004 R1 as I just wasn't enjoying it (too much for me???) and after fannying around for three months I put a deposit on a sparkly white Ducati 848 which I pick up on Monday. Only problem is that I now have to sit and wait all week until Monday when the weather is so bloody nice!!!
Also, have never owned a new bike before so any tips on running it in would be greatly appreciated.

Gratcons to you Champs-nice bike. Running in?IME- Do excatly as the manual says. Also change the oil more often then recommended( I did it at about half the miles recommended for each change) Your have to treat Catis with a lot of TLC but you will reap the rewards. Oh and a get a jock-box to protect your meat an 2 veg -did you test ride it before you bought? its quite a hard ride. There are many more peeps who will probably be along in a mo to give more tech advice

Thanks Immy. Nope, like an idiot I didn't test it, however, I did take the 1098 for a spin when it first came out and loved it apart from it being a bit too brutal (i'll be commuting on it everyday) so the 848 seems like a good compromise! Just looking forward to the noise now!!!

One of my mates bought an 848 about 6 months ago and loves it. He has spent a fortune on toys for it though!

I bought one last December, once my b@lls and wrists toughened up and I put some mirror extenders on her it became a joy to ride. (I'd also suggest dropping a tooth in front or add a few at the back).

Did you get the 848? If so what do you think of it?
I remember posting in these forums when I was thinking of getting mine when chappers suggested something to the effect of 'if it's sore b@lls that are preventing you from getting the Ducati just have 'em cut off'. As a balding 40ish year old man I get more enjoyment these days out of the Duc than I do out of the contents of my sac so I'd have to say chappers was right.

Yep, got it! And am absolutely loving it, well, I was until some stupid woman reversed into it. It's currently getting repaired but can't wait to get it back. It's killing me not having it in this weather!!! Balls and wrists have toughened up now thanks. Was a painful couple of weeks at first though. Am only 28 and don't have any kids yet so cutting them off wasn't really an option, I've just worked through the pain!

I just read about your bike being hit, tragic news indeed at it sounds like it should come back as good as new. I've had to put on mirror extenders just to be able to see what it was I just passed. (not that they would have helped when the bike was hit))
Enjoy the GSXR and hopefully you'll have the Duc back soon.

HMM ... Seems a common thing peoples cattys being hit, crushed and mown down via women drivers in there cars, this is like the 10th case of this happening that I have heard of. Cattys are big enough bikes too and the ones that have been hit have mainly been yellow so how can you miss that? Yours being white should be easy to dam see too!
Maybe women are colour blind to yellow and white, or they just dont like cattys.
Hope when shes fixed you enjoy the riding again
