I am looking for the smallest battery that will do for my race bike, I have a 2003 R1 it has the starter and a small electronic dashboard so not much to power does anyone know what is the smallest and lightest battery I can get away with and where I can get one?

Shouldn't need too much. Forgive me if I'm saying something stupid, but isn't there enough current being produced by the generator to run the dash and injectors once the engine is running. That was you'd be able to get away without having a battery on the bike. You'd only need one to start it.

You need to find out what the crank rating of the battery you have at the present is. This is the part of the spec, of the battery that dermines what's fed to your starter system in order for it get fired up. Once you've got this then you can get a smaller sized battery with the equivalent crank current. Newer batteries are usually gel based. If thats what you already have then you may find it difficult to get hold of one that's much smaller, you'd be saving grams, not kilograms. www.hobbsportracing.co.uk/ may be able to help if you give them a ring.
