R6 gear changes
      #41635 - 27/04/2009 04:59

Hello all , i own a 2000 r6 only 8K miles , the clutch bracket popped of and i made a few down changes with no clutch while out riding . The gears have always been a bit clonky when changing but now when im shifting up it only engages on the second try its not any more clonky (for use of a better word) but its quite annoying . is this a adjustment problem or gears .and is there any oil i can use to help prolong gears / make smoother
many thanks for any help

Might be bent selector forks. Oil type isn't going to make much difference as long as it's a bike specific oil.

If everything externally looks okay and is properly adjusted you aren't going to find out much more without having a look internally.

A correctly timed down-change shouldn't damage the gearbox although it's best not to do as you stand more chance of damaging the box on the way down. As FBB says you may have a bent selector or it may just be that adjustment is required after the bracket coming off.
