Haven't heard it put this way before, but it's a great analogy.
I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back patio and filled it lovingly with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food.
But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue.
Then came the shit... It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table...everywhere!
Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket.
And other birds were boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.
After a while, I couldn't even sit in my own back garden anymore. So I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.
Soon, the back yard was like it used to be ..... quiet, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.
Now let's see..... our government gives out free food,
subsidized housing, free medical care, and free education and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen.
Then the illegal's came by the tens of thousands.
Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families; you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor; your child's
2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English.
Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to 'press
one' to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than the our Flag are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.
Just my opinion, but maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder.
If you agree, pass it on; if not, continue cleaning up the shit

oh dear, oh dear, a great analogy of what?
Might make more sense if it said we were all birds. then you could say that 80% of the birds are starving, while 20% of the birds have more food than they know what to do with.
Plus of that 20%, 12% created so much pollution, used up so much natural resources that the poorest 80% water supplies start drying up to add to the lack of food and create a new phenomina called global warming.
Just to make it perfect, the 20% also are the richest and demand ever cheaper goods (inc food) and through power of trade an arms get the poorest 80% to make it and add pollution (shit) to *their* own backyard that often kills them or sends them to an early grave.
Should we be so smug about our bird feeders?

I have always been a Blue as far as voting is concerned.
No matter how many % have and have not I thought it struck a nerve for the situation in this country at present.
What would happen if we took all the money spent(and generated by)the good old speed camera and spent it on the prevention of illegal immigrants? Would that make me racist or a Sun reader?
Maybee I should move to Australia, settle in a town with Aborigonies which used to roam for miles in a land free of the "White" man

Funnily enough I've just finished reading a book called "Secret Country" by John Pilger which has an entire section on the genocidal treatment of the Aboriginals by the English settlers.
Some of us have moved on since then.
Clearly some haven't.
Yes the criminals were the troops but it was organised by (mostly) the second sons of the English gentry who came out here 'cos they had no prospects in the UK. So it was the same old robber baron families doing it out here that did it back there.

I have no problem with 'foreigners', Christ I'm married to one, but I do get pissed off when the 'asylum' seeker has come through 6 different countries to get here. Any one of which they could have got 'asylum' in.

Those that have "moved on" to a global understanding of economic and social situations, I take my hat off to you!You should be in power somewhere, preaching to the masses instead of wasting your talents on the mere motorcyclist.

I usually stay completely away from most of the political arguements on this (and other) forum. But I just can't hold my tongue any longer.
Your quote is the biggest crock I've read.
I've heard this argument over and over, from the kind of people who measure all Govt spending on anything in terms of "how many hospitals would that have bought?".
Why do you want to prevent immigration? How would you spend money on preventing illegals? Would it surprise you to know that illegal immigration is a far smaller problem than the tabloid press would have you believe?
Or that our Govt currently spends MORE on home grown, British scroungers than it does on so called asylum seekers?
So called "analogies" like the one Shiny has reproduced here pop up regularly on the e-mail grapevine, and they all, without fail, make me sick. I'm ashamed that there are folk in this country who write, read and honestly believe this kind of "little Englander" crap.
There, I've kept that little rant bottled up for bloody ages!
I feel so much better now. I'm off to bed.

And so it should! Of course there are going to be English scroungers but that does not mean we should have to pay for every other scrounger that breaches our borders.

XX, some of the immigrants who come here are geniunely fleeing persecution...these are the one's who will go out and find work and contribute to this country...
Some however, generally the Criminal Element, come to this country....not to work but, as Economic Migrants..out to make as much money as possible by hook or by crook!!!
This Gov't pisses me off...people who have risked their lives for this country...Ghurkha's for example are told to bugger off back to Nepal...yet nothing is done about All the illegals..???
Bring back National Service......anyone between the age of 18 -21 who is not in full time employment or full time education goes into the Armed Forces..Obviously if someone is a pacifist or there are religios grounds..(Buddhists for example) then something along the German idea can be done...they work in the community as care workers etc..
It would stop a lot of immigrants..and it would give the "live off the social culture" in this country a right kick up the arse....it may just give some of the young layabouts the knowledge that there is more to life than hanging around street corners!!!

I recall many decades ago that we were talking about how humans in an advanced society would be down to a three day week.
What happened to that? Corporatocracy and it's slave mentality of which you are a perfect example of how their propaganda keeps us divided and conquered.
I really recommend that you watch the movie "Zietgeist" and then Zietgiest Addendum" on U-tube or Google Video. If your mind isn't as closed as it appears to be you may learn something useful.
