Anyone going? My first time at Donington (on track that is), thought I'd do it before F1 comes online.
On a practical point, does anyone know if it still takes 4 hours to get out of the car park or is that just a race day tradition.

Next time you get an urge to do a trackday up country forget Donnington try Oulton a proper racetrack. in the meantime enjoy your day.

Oulton's on my 'to do' list but that's a 3-4 hour trek one way as opposed to 2 hrs. Also I'm guessing Oulton isn't going to change much in the near future whereas Donington is, if it hasn't already. I'm assuming once it does change it's a changed forever type change or will the old GP circuit still be an option I wonder?
My biggest problem, if you can call it a problem, is Snetterton is only 15 minutes away and while it's not the most exciting circuit the lack of an extra 1 1/2 hour drive makes it more attractive. Hoping to be there on the 22nd June.

Make the most of your trip if you have already booked it. But i have to say that Oulton Park is a more rewarding circuit, but from a track day point of view, Donington is quite good for spacing the riders out throught the session, I also do hope that with the re-developements it would also be able to run the "old circuit" configeration.
I have plan's for the French / Italian & spanish to come over for a track day along with superbike readers for next year, but along with some other motorsport events at Donington we will have to wait & see.
I also understand the logistics involved, but if its your first track day, why not try your local track first "novice group" then for your next you know what level of riding you have.
Either way, track riding changes your life & the way you ride.
have fun & maybe see you soon in Europe too

Had a great day yesterday. Warm and sunny with a nice cool breeze blowing down pitlane - fantastic.
It was my first time with focused events as well. I was quite impressed TBH. They seemed to clamp down on some of the silly overtaking more than MSV do (last time I was at one of theirs there was handbags at dawn in one of the garages)
I'd asked for the inters group, but been put in the novice group which I genuinely didn't know (being stupid and 'all) and went out in the inters anyway. Nobody said anything until I went out in the first session proper when they let me out anyway.
When I came back in I went and spoke to the organiser asked if I could stay in the inters which I couldn't (cos of numbers) but he suggested I moved into the advanced instead. Did that and had a fantastic day lots of good clear laps and hardly held up at all (I was doing most of the holding up probably )
Loved the circuit once I'd got my gear changes and braking markers sorted out I felt I'd got most of it pretty much down. Two exceptions were Redgate which I constantly seemed to exit on the rumble strip no matter what line I went in on and melbourne loop where I was either barely moving before I got there or carrying so much speed and brake and out so wide I was expecting the front to wash out at any time.
Can't see where it's worth paying nearly double what a day at Cadwell costs though.

Oulton & Brands are both on my to-do list for this year. I'm trying to do 2 a month through the summer months but travelling obviously adds extra cost.
Brands isn't so bad but Oulton Park is a long trip which I'd need to stay at the night before unless I want to arrive fucked before I start.
Do you know if Silverstone is any good? Looks a bit like a longer version of Snetterton to me which is okay but I only do loads there 'cos I can leave home at 7.15 to sign on at 7.30.

I've had mate who've been there and they love it. Oulton is worth every minute of the journey there are so many excelent parts of the track Druids and Cascades immedatley sring to mind one of my fondest memories is hurtling through cascades with a pack of bikes and being struck by a thought that if one of the guys on the inside when down we were all fucked and it was only a trackday. I was riding a GSXR750 WTs bout 97-98 Dem is Dunlop 207GP tyres brilliant at the time.
