There I was struggling to hit the right lines on my fav roads due to the wind and what's this in the distance? Mr and Mrs Grebbo on their crap '80s rat bike with jeans, t-shirt and, oh, forgot the helmets then? Now due to the fact that I've got cock all tolerance about anything or anybody at the moment is my reaction of,'wankers, go on, fall off' about right, or should we all be proving a 'freedom' point to the authorities. Anyone who's bored enough please set me straight...

Well they probably saw you and thought fucking poof, whys he dressed like a power ranger the Poser. That's got to be some consolation. I suppose you could have called me a grebo a fair few years ago although rat bikes were never my thing I did like decent chops that handled. As a matter of fact I still have a couple of mates you'd call grebos but I doubt to their faces, they've probably been into bikes longer than you've been out of nappies.

Educate the Yank. What's a grebo? I have a feeling they're what we call squids over here.

Chip you are looking at number 2 Although I'm guessing that the OP is trying to describe a what the people themselves would call "Bikers" more aligned to the grass roots of biking in the UK as opposed to "some poof dressed up in a Power Rangers suit". The Grebo type are generally more tolerant of other bikers and are far more likely to stop and help you out as opposed to sneer and ride past like some of the later people who call themselves bikers. Many are more than capable of building and maintaining their own bikes to a very high standard even though sometimes the bike can be cosmetically challenged.

Wow a lot of stereotypes there but thanks for answering. I also owned a blackened thing, '78 SuperDream, amusing to deck the pegs, but I guess I just grew out of the need to look the bikey thing and never did get on with the smell like a bike bit too, also lets face it, reading Superbike doesn't show a great deal of interest in vague handling, old pieces of junk that are best left to wax lyrical about down the pub. I am heartened by the thought that I may be young? ish? still but the web is like a black visor, you just never know do you? Wish my mates could spanner their bikes like yours though, save me a job...

There are plenty of people on modern bikes that still dress like that. It is not about a look but about not bothering to dress up like a Power ranger to ride a bike. I wear jeans to go shopping so I'm still wearing them when I ride my bike. Some of us don't have the same obsession with safety gear or being "safe" in general that you modern bike riders seem to have.
