Dartford crossing
      #42060 - 11/05/2009 20:39

I know this won't really matter to most people on bikes but for those of you that may drive instead:
In the last week SPECS cameras have gone up and live on the QE2 bridge from before the bridge to the tolls. Remember the speed limit is 50 and before the tolls drops to 40.

Bugger, I wish I'd read this earlier, I'm not sure if I've been speeding in the truck or car, but definately on the bike.

I suppose I've got to sweat on the postman for a few months.

More cameras going up in the south east:
Bluebell Hill, average speed, both up and down.
Detling hill both ways again.
M20 from junction 6 all the way to Dover. Again average speed. These won't be able to nick foreigners though apparently.

As I understand it the cameras near Maidstone are only going to be working when traffic is heavy and there are speed restritcions. They wern't working about 3 weeks ago when I went through them at 90 on my way to Dover.

Going over at 7am Tues morn traffic was a little slow, couldn't get over 35mph if I tried But the signs were still up saying the cameras were not in use...

The ones near Maidstone are for peak times(they are active if there is a red ring around the speed shown, as are the ones by Heathrow), however they are putting them up all the way to Dover on the M20 which I believe will be permanently active

there are more sites coming up but this site has some interesting reading http://www.abd.org.uk/specs.htm

in particular that the cameras are only type approved to cover one lane.if you change lanes the home office has admitted that the system does not work. amusingly the feds have urged motorist not to change lanes unnecessarily.

I have never switched lanes between cameras

It must work, I use it when going up the M2 in the roadworks and haven't got a ticket yet....quick I need some wood to touch now
