How do you post a fairing?
      #42378 - 01/06/2009 12:26

In a fit of stupidity I've put the race fairing from my old R6 on ebay....

..and for the life of me I don't know how to package the thing. Any ideas?

Help!

Break it down to components and find a big box.

Well yes.... it's a start.

It only breaks down into 2 parts (Harris race fairing) so the box is kinda the issue!

They sell boxes on ebay all you'll really need a a single wall box about a C flute (the depth of the corrugations) should suffice and not be too heavy.
else you could wrap and brace the vulnerable parts, IE rolled up or cardboard tube between the wings for the screen wrap it in whatever you can and contact a company like parcel2go https://www.parcel2go.com/ who I use a lot they'll quote it using a load of couriers giving you alternative services and prices and have it collected.
I've sent a saddle to Finland via DHL using them with no problems.
As long as the vulnerable areas are protected and you use an address label a parcel is a parcel to a courier.
Oddly enough I had a set of bull-bars collected this morning all I did was to wrap the plastic in the middle with old cardboard boxes and off it went.

Maybe you should make it 'pick up only'? Save grief if it gets damaged, etc.

If you use the Post Office, don't expect the person behind the counter to have much of a sense of humour. I had to return a cornet (small trumpet basically). It was in quite a large box, I went in and said to the lady 'This won't fit in the postbox'. She thought I was being serious!!!

If you go down to your local B&Q store, and ask the nightcrew for a big box off a 1/4 pallet of paint rollers, I am sure they will be happy to help. they sell hundreds each week so they open several boxes each week.

I used to work on a nightcrew and we were asked all the time for big boxes.

Worth a try at least.

Oh yeah, the nightcrews normally start at around 8pm every night.

Revrun, It's for a 2006-2007 bike- search Ebay for 'Yamaha R6 Abarth' and you should find it easily enough.

If you're interested I'm sure we could arange something.

I did actually list it last week as collection only but some idiot from Slovenia won it and sent me a message saying 'Why Not Post?'.

Muppet.

Thanks for the advice about boxes- I have a B&Q warehouse about 1/2 mile from me!

I would've done but the Eastern Block scumbag is no longer registered.

Hmm... funny that.

Actually chappers I blame this all on you. You told me to sell my R6 and buy an RSV.. ..and I did.

Well, sort of. I think I asked you what I should buy and you recommended an RSV- but that's close enough...

Oh har-dee-bloody-har
My eldest wanted to learn to play the trumpet but was too small so was given a cornet instead (just a smaller version). I tried to talk him into the clarinet (same as the saxaphone so can play both) but he wanted the trumpet.
