      #42427 - 03/06/2009 19:34

Well, here it is at last.

Firebike Promo

and the making of

The making of the firebike promo

We had a lot of fun making it but it's what you guys think of it that really matters.

Well, seeing as what we think really matters.......

Good stuff! I'm quite inspired - now I really MUST get down to Battle one Sunday.

Don'tcha think the vid is ruined a bit when some ugly bugger called John has the camera on him......?

Excellent.
I know how hard it is to do and the time it takes to put together. Clearly it will help.

The bits I really *liked+ were the edited public reaction pieces - they seemed natural and honest.

FJ you are the best of the bunch to camera, but the top tips bit was a bit wooden and showed lack of camera experience.

If it were at all possible do it again and re edit, *don't* talk straight to camera. Far better (and easier to be natural) that the top tips appear to be given to an off camera third person - this also would have been much more in keeping with the event in the vid.

Lastly, there were not quite enough Fires and Smoke

Looks all good to me big yin, slickly done IMO. I will DEFINATELY take waterproofs out if it looks like rain in the future! Genius lol! Were you wearing make-up? Does that round-reflective thingy really iluminate under yer 'chin'?

Seriously though, It's a good vid. Well done mate and you're still due about 8 minutes odd of yer 15 minutes of fame...

Ta for comments guys and big thanks to Al for sticking the story up on SB homepage.

Yeah, the "waterproofs if it's raining tip" is a belter but I like Dave's "leaky" comment the best. Is he referring to bike or rider? Although I had a bit of a mental block on the tinted visor comment as I tip-toed through that particular legal minefield.

The whole thing was one-take and unscripted but overall I reckon it wasn't a bad effort.

The tips straight to camera was at the behest of the director but I agree Biggles, the 3rd party method works better IMO.

BTW I did quite a bit of TV during 2002 in the run up to the strike with BBC SE and Meridian so I reckon my 15 minutes is well and truly used up, thetony.

BTW BTW the 'Blade has just returned from another makeover which I think has improved it some. No doubt I'll be sticking a pic or several up on here in the not too distant future.

Is that better, Biggles?

Congrats to you and your collegues-job well done. I did note some cloacked reference to the fact that riders could approach "you"-sadly due to the activities of the "other" emergency service riders see them as the enemy-unapproachable and untalkative. Also its sad that those who enforce the road traffic act and apparently promote road safety didnt make a vid. I think Kent made one about 1982
I hope you dont mind that I sent 5 Forces Road Policing units the vid with the same sentiments Prevention is better than cure IMO-
BTW FJ I took you for a Sussex person but Im sure I heard a hint of Cider Country yocal twang

Cheers immy. In fairness to the Sussex cops we attend events with (and not forgetting it was them who first got us involved back in 2007) I would say that the majority of riders who show an interest in what we're doing seem equally happy talking to us as they do talking to the Traffic cops. We're just another avenue of approach, as are South-East Coast Ambulance Service who also run a marked up bike in addition to the paramedic bikes used operationally.

I believe Sussex Police have made a Bikesafe film recently (filming was going on at Pevensey a while ago) but I've not seen it yet.

No problem in firing the vid around RPU's. The FRS wanted it up on Youtube straight away to ensure maximum exposure.

Got me on the accent mate. I was brought up within spitting distance of the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire which borders Herefordshire (aka "almost Wales") which is home to some of the finest cider manufacture known to man. I migrated to the South-East back in '96 as I'd heard that the streets were paved (not with Gold, just errrm ....Paved). Despite being down here for 13 years I still regard the Midlands as home and intend to return one day .... not just yet though.
