Own a GSXR1000k7 k8 ? Check your nuts.
      #42433 - 03/06/2009 22:03

It is a good idea to check the blue nut at the base of the fork stanchion (the one that houses the Low stroke damping screw) for *cracks*.

I have just found a hairline crack on mine starting at the top and going two thirds of the way down the nut. On checking Gixxerjunkies I am very far from alone. It seems the problem is starting to emerge across the country.

It also does not appear to be caused by use, rather that some of them were just not strong enough/made to the right spec.

Don't know about the 750 or 600 but might be wise to check those as well.

Thanks B. I'll give mine a quick check tomorrow. If it is cracked then it's definately not to do with use, haven't touched mine since I bought it

Took mine to P&H and they had only one guy a few months ago and they thought he had tried to tighten the blue nut. But recently they have had several folk in, they are taking pictures and chassis numbers and sending to Suzuki who are currently trying to asses how many bikes are affected.

The crack is very small (at least on mine) and hard to spot, but the more people read about it and check, the more it will be found. Judging by my own experience of three days Suzuki can expect a small tidal wave of customers.

It seems Suzuki don't just have the widget, they have entire forks (and a limited supply of them)-one of the six or so guys on GJ's is having the whole fork replaced!

This seems a tad silly to me. P&H think Suzuki might be seek a deal with an after market company (like Ktech, who make one for about £75) to supply as a direct replacement.

The other curious thing to me is that the cracks seem to appear on the righthand one but not the left.

I was talking to PDQ this afternoon and mentioned the blue widget and they have had about five cases in the past 12 months mostly on bikes with more than 10,000 on the clock.

Checked mine, seems ok. Cleaned it off and had a good look, without actually removing it I can't see any cracks.

Update:
Suzuki have offered to replace, wait for it, the whole fork leg!

Slightly ridiculous as the part that needs replacing probably only cost £30 where as a fork is £1300.

I have now gone into battle to get a *pair* of forks as the springs and dampers in the old left one will have softened and not match plus visually it will look very odd having one new fork leg and slightly one faded one.

Have you got the official notification? It would be useful

No just verbal go ahead from the dealer P&H who in turn has been in contact with Suzuki-I think by email, as they took a digital picture to back the warranty claim...
