Hot Running 96 GSXR-750
      #42460 - 05/06/2009 06:15

I have a 96 Suzuki GSXR-750 that seems to run hot when in traffic. I have replaced the oil with semi synthetic and replaced the antifreeze with water wetter to try and bring the temp down. I have had a look at the thermostat and it seems to be working as well as the electric fan comes on when the temp gets too high. It does not overheat but it does run quite hot when it has to stand too long in the summer time. If anyone has any info or suggests besides not stopping for traffic it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Frost

Sounds like a normal bike to me.

How hot is "hot"?

Yep how hot is hot?

In traffic, on a warm or hot day 102/3 degs and fan on is not unusual.

What does concern me is that you "replaced the antifreeze with water wetter" did the problem start *after* doing this? It would really help to know. It could the water wetter or possibly an air lock.

I have not used water wetter, so cannot comment on the correct mix or how good it is, but bearing in mind where you live I would have thought the 50/50 coolant mix a better all year solution unless you don't use your bike when it gets cold.

While asking myriad questions what is the "normal" running temp? Should be around 74-84 ish... are the radiator fins clogged up with crap? If so try hosing them out from the back (be careful they are delicate) and a gentle scrub from the front with a tooth brush.
