I agree, jail for speeding is a huge waste of resources but what about the general public jailed for similar? (or in some cases less)

"Should have known better" theory should apply to Police. Any offence by a police officer should carry double the usual as far as I am concerned.

I like the bit about how he was trying to find a safe place to turn off his blues and twos! On a motorway at 113? Surly you just turn them off and slow down to the limit? There's a new one for us: Could you explain why you were doing 120 sir? I was trying to find somewhere safe to turn my indicator off cuntstable

[dons asbestos underwear] Cop or not, going on the article alone, he should not have been sent to jail in the first place.
Lose his job/be drummed out of the Traffic division, fined big time and points on license, yes.
Of course comparing this case, with the guy who was caught doing 120 and no accident, no previous, who also got jail, makes my blood boil.
Neither should be have been jailed. Crim record for having mints fall out of your pocket? I have reached my personal tipping point with regard to the justice system. Making an appointment now with my local MP (who is squeaky clean on the expenses issue) to lobby her until she gets into the fray to stop this utter madness.

I saw in one of the papers at work today someone got a £50 on-the-spot fine for dropping a tenner, accidently of course. The world has gone fucking nuts!!
Whether the paper (can't remember which one, Express I think) is to believed of course is another matter but the very fact that I don't disbelieve it instantly is a sign of how far from reality we've drifted.

That story was also in the Sun. The coppers handed the tenner back and slapped him with a 50 quid fine! The said that they had repeatedly asked him to pick up the dropped piece of paper. Zero tolerance on littering apparently.

Yeah, surprise surprise, eh? I realy believed that he was going to end up sharing a cell block with all those MPs that have been cheerfully defrauding us of millions of quid. Who could have ever have doubted the British justice system?
In a world where somebody doing 115mph on a bike without drama in good conditions goes to jail, justice demands that somebody who is allegedly a better trained driver than the likes of you or I, who is driving obviously inappropriately fast for obviously poor conditions in a marked plod car and chucks it off the motorway at very high speed, needs to be in jail.
Common sense says that he has learnt his lesson, is lucky to have survived and won't be allowed to drive anything faster than a police bicycle for a long time if ever again, but common sense has fuck all to do with sentencing, especially for motoring offences. This prick has almost certainly nicked many people who were pointlessly shat on from a great height by our legal system and treated like granny-raping scum for doing nothing anybody sane would object to. He surely can't plead that he's a special case and deserves any kind of justice, can he?
Apparently he can :-(
