Just got back from my annual Gap trip, and once again, the place was heaven. The cops were cool and traffic was light during the week. The Mini made an awesome tow vehicle and absolutly killed on the Gap until a fatass on a cruiser blew a turn and made me take evasive action. The right rear wheel and tire got totally demolished It was tons of fun trying to find a Mini wheel and tire in the middle of nowhere, North Carolina. Speaking of tires, I put a new set of 016's on the day we left and got to the wear bars on the sides in 4 days:eek: Not sure if I should be proud or pissed about that. Here's a link to some action shots: http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/AlbumSlideshow.aspx?a=597842

Excelent Photos love the waterfall one. Get the STD wheels back on or get the caster angle ajusted to suit on the Mini. Question why a Mini.

I've always been an aircooled VW guy, so I have a thing for funky little cars. Also like having the exact opposite of the stupid giant trucks people drive over here.

Fair enough although one of those merc smart cars would be the total antithesis.

I only know a little about three cars. We have a Mini now and it's a bloody site better than our old KA or my Mums SmartCar.

Judging by the pics, Chip, I'd have to say that pissed is not an option.
I guess the only problem now is evening up the tire (I mean tyre as we Brits like to call 'em) wear. A spot of 1/4 mile drag racing perhaps, or maybe a bit of Bridgestone annihilation - one of may favourite hobbies BTW.

I must say FJ, I find it rather worrying that as a fireman you can sit on your bike grinning while not realising the back of your bike is on fire!!

I ain't that bright I meant camber angle. When you fit bigger wheels to a car you generally need to drop the suspension a tad to stop it looking like it's on stilts, to do that most people fit shorter springs which obviously makes the shock sit lower. The wheel will then sit at an angle due to the shock being shortened but lower arm being the same length. that's reason why many Chaved up cars scrub the inner tread on their tyres. Theres more to lowering a car and still making it handle well. I learnt all this when I had a Merc 190 2.3 16V(Cosworth)a few years ago. I bought the wrong lower arm, it was too long for the car which is lower than the normal 190 barges, I had considered fitting 17 inch wheels till I found out it wouldn't improve the handling which I liked as it was.

I'm still sorting the suspension out on the Mini. My wife drives it like it's a Range Rover so I can't keep it at the highth it was originally set up for. I can tell you that I never thought I'd enjoy driving a car as much, though. Every run in the car has us laughing our asses off the whole time. I met quite a few Brits that weekend, one of which was a 68 year old guy on a BSA triple that was riding WAY harder that I'd dare on skinny tires
