Broken Ducati 848...ALREADY!
      #42850 - 22/06/2009 20:05

So, parked up outside the local shop the other day while I popped in to grab some bits only to emerge to the sound of a System 4 blearing loudly. The cause of this? Some silly lady had just reversed her Mercedes 4x4 into my brand new 848... Not the best day of my life...

Damage doesn't look too bad though and is going to get assessed tomorrow. Am impressed with her insurance co (Direct Line) as they have arranged for a shiny new GSXR 750 to be delivered to my work address tomorrow while my bike is getting repaired so at least I don't have to tube it around London...

It may be just be coincidence but and old lady reversed her Renault Clio not just into my parked R1, but on to it. She was almost as mortified as I was, which in an odd way helped.

Some old codger reversed into my mates 6 month old zx6r last month. He was on double yellow lines so the other guys insurance are saying they wont pay out because he was parked illegaly..

Its about £1000 of damage...

No pay out at all? Should have at least got a percentage-illegaly parked or not he should not have damaged it.

My R1 was close to a write off because she binned *all* the fairings and exhaust and footpegs. It was all resprayed/replaced, but never quite felt the same again, so I sold it.

I had an accident a couple of years ago where someone drove over my bike while I was on it. they said I shouldnt have been there, but my legal company explained that it makes no difference whatso ever, "If something is parked anywhere or stationary even if its pointing the wrong way down a oneway street, then liability lies 100% with the person who hit the stationary object".

Tell yer mate to get a decent legal company who know thier stuff. Lots of them dont even fight a claim because its easy money to just let the claim go!

Nice.

The logic of the insurance company would have us believe it is okay to hit anything if parked illegally, which is, of course, nonsense.

Thanks mate,

I've told him about this and he's shouted at his insurance company who are apparently going to do something about it....

That's a shame 'cos I've just mown down some jay walkers and was hoping to use the old "they were crossing illegally so it's not my fault defence"

So, got the quote back. Going to cost £781 for a new headlight and front mudguard (including insurance assesment, labour and VAT). Glad I'm not paying that bill!

Just want the bike back now though. It's been 10 days already. Just lucky they gave me the Gixxer 750 while they have mine I suppose...
