Judgement Against Placement of speed detection equipment
      #43023 - 01/07/2009 10:31

No dont get your hopes up to much but you should think about this:
On Monday the Budapest High Court ruled that any driver convicted of excess speed where the speed detection eqiupment is fitted into a Police vehicle and for the purposes of speed detection the vehicle is stationary and parked in an ILLEGAL AREA eg on yellowlines-dangerous position -bus stop- zones controlled by internationally recognised NO-PARKING signs, then those convictions are not sound as they were appropriated in an unlawful manner.
It will be retrospective from 1st January 2009 but it is encumbant on the driver to show that the Police vehicle was parked illegally. Not so differcult as their always in the bus-stops or No-Parking zones :grin.Worth a challenge over there

This may ruffle a few feathers and I hope not tempt fate but anybody unobservant enough not to spot a big bright Police car or yellow vest is either travelling too fast for the conditions or fucking blind and deserves every point. Although I will accept there are exceptions IE a very long straight and laser speed gun.

Agree on the spotting them bit. I've been told (by a traffic cop) that the common or garden camera vans have an absolute maximum range of 500 yards, and are usually set up to much less.

Immy, what's the gen on Scamera vans using the "police vehicle only" bays on the sides of motorways/dual carriageways? Is that legal?

Be carefull in France boys & girls

Over here the police use Focus estate cars in normal colours other than the rear passenger windows tinted

Then on the parcel shelf there is a large unit that looks like the head of "johny-5" sometimes with a flash system that looks like a B&Q halogen bodged onto the rear bumper

They also use simple white Berlingo vans with a mesh fitted to the rear windows, (both BTW are forward facing camera's) so on the bike ok, but you have been warned

Happy holidays, don't speed on the big main roads, & take special care on weekends, they have little else to do

I know what you mean but there are loads of exceptions.
On the blind side of bridges, backed up out of view on slip roads, parked and onbscured by foliage on entrances to fields, using natural camouflage large road side objects, crest of hills over looking adjacent roads. +etc As these are parked on pavements or blocking access not "legal" but being da man they can get away with it.

At Easter I saw one backed up on the dividing strip between an on ramp and the A3, as it was high up and behind a bridge only visible after you pass, not at all legally parked - if fact arguably dangerous, and doing a roaring trade.

This is the sort of thing that convinces me the authorities have no interest in reducing speeds any every interest in raising £££s.

If they were genuinely interested in reducing speed there'd be lots of visible police cars on the road with speed gun traps to catch the poor, inattentive fuckers, who as we know are the real 'killers' - not speed.

Of course the trouble with that policy is it doesn't raise enough money so we carry on with the cash cows parked on the side of the road, achieving fuck all other than making lots of cash.

Its a bit of a grey area-as they are in partnership with the Police and with Police permission they could well do but there are saftey issues. But the idea of the Police only bays was for high visibility marked cars(the crews of which were there to moniter and/police the traffic) Unmarked cars werent allowed to use them for that very reason ie unmarked
