Amid scantily-clad burlesque dancers and trapeze artists, Suzuki unveiled their plans for 2007, including the jaw-dropping update of the GSX-R1000.
Bergman fans will be pleased to see a new 125 and 200cc scooters, while the whole Bandit series gets a massive overhaul (both the 650 and the new 1250 feature new motors and loads of style, suspension and braking changes). But the big news is the 2007 GSX-R1000, which has seen a host of revisions and some seriously smart technological advances.
The biggest news on the GSX-R is the bike's adjustable engine management system. A three-way button changes the engine mapping to adjust the bike's performance to the conditions. Trundling through town or struggling for grip in the wet? Stick it on the lowest power setting. Droning up the motorway? Stick it on the medium setting. Thrashing around a track at full chat? Give it the full monty. And full monty for the bike means around 184bhp…
The engine's essentials remain unchanged, but small changes to the injectors and inlet and exhaust ports add refinement to the bike's already impressive power. Out back, the Suzuki now uses two exhausts which lower the bike's centre of gravity and improve mass centralisation.
Technological advances don't stop with the clever mapping system as the GSX-R1000 now sports an electronic steering damper. Improved aerodynamics and adjustable footpegs and controls make the Suzuki a tailorable machine. Suspension changes revolve around revisions to the shock linkage, as well as the front forks now having low/high speed compression damping for extreme control. To top it all off, there's a new radial master cylinder and flash new colours.
The GSX-R1000 should start appearing in the shops in February. It can't come too soon.
