I make no excuse for this unashamed plug for something that I suspect you would normally not even look at twice. Maybe you're not in the market for a scoot, but if you know someone who is, point them in the direction of the Peugeot Speedfight. I've ridden one for months and loved every second on it. Pin the throttle! Laugh your head off. Go faster than you thought possible! Turn into a 250cc GP rider. And so on. Anyway, here's the press blurb.

Peugeot has launched two new versions of its best-selling Speedfight scooter for the 2008 season. More than 400,000 have been produced since its launch in 1996 and the Speedfight, which still tops the UK sales charts, is credited with creating the modern sports scooter.

With its single arm front fork and asymmetrical twin lens headlights the Speedfight is instantly recognisable and this year's new colour schemes enhance that appearance. The Ultimate is in metallic blue and silver, with tri-spoke alloy wheels and white shock absorbers. Meanwhile the R-Cup, the latest in a series of limited edition models that pay homage to the success of Peugeot in World Rally, is transformed from traditional red to new white and black bodywork, with white tri-spoke wheels and sponsor logos.

Both models feature 'snake bite' exhaust, two-tone sport saddle, aluminium footplates and rear spoiler. The liquid cooled 2-stroke engine is smooth, responsive and economical while 180mm disc brakes front and rear deliver superb stopping power.

Both machines are available through Peugeot's national dealer network priced at £1,929 on the road and are covered by a two-year manufacturer's warranty for peace of mind. Full details are available on Peugeot's interactive new website.
