It's always a tricky one to call – forgoing safety for the sake of fashion. These Alpinestars shoes would not look out of place at your local wine bar with a gin and tonic in your hand, but they offer fack all protection for your ankles if you're riding. They do have a clever studded grip area on the top of your foot to make shifting gears a doddle – this makes them fine for a quick trip to the shops, but probably not best worn for the proverbial 'Sunday blast.'
