Held Phantom race gloves
“Stingray skin gloves? Shut up!” You can understand a man's scepticism. Dep Ed Alan got a pair of theses gloves and I didn't really believe it when he said some of the crash protection areas were made from Stingray skin.
Whatever the reason, they work. These gloves suffered the same fate as my race suit, namely they hit the deck and went down the road (with me inside) at roughly 100mph during a race at Cadwell Park.
Despite going down on my right hand, arm and shoulder with a sudden impact I got away with the crash scot-free. No marks or bruising on my hands at all and just a couple of scuffs on the gloves. No bursting of seams, breaking of the armour or anything else you might expect on other gloves and the force of hitting the deck hard had no effect on the outside of my hand and wrist thanks to excellent carbon fibre reinforcement.
A double-securing Velcro wrist strap and the long forearm or sleeve part of the glove help to make me feel very secure putting them on. That crash was the best possible product test I could have given my kit, these gloves are a great example of quality kit that works.
