Weise Knox SPS gloves

May 1, 2007 - David Bradford

This is the first glove to feature Knox's new Scaphoid Protection System (SPS). The system is, in effect, a plastic 'slider' located on the palm. It is incorporated to prevent the palm from gripping the road surface in the event of a crash, which commonly causes fractures of the scaphoid – a small bone that connects the thumb to the wrist. Instead, it allows the rider's outstretched hand to slide along the tarmac, eliminating the 'grab effect'. The innovation was tested by Dean Ellison in MotoGP last year, who was happy that it did not impinge on comfort or control. Weise's Knox SPS glove is made from full-grain leather and has a pre-shaped, race fit. The SPS panels are surrounded by suede overlay and reinforced with Schoeller Keprotec. Available in black/white, black/red and black/blue, in sizes XS to XXL, priced at £69.99. Contact 0800 369537 or visit www.weise-clothing.co.uk.
