Ernst Manufacturing Complete Socket System

Simon may have found the perfect lid, but I've found the perfect way to organise my socket drawer. Sockets are often supplied on metal clip-rails nowadays, which is good news. But unless you're willing to drill and rivet them to the bottom of your toolbox you still end up with a messy looking drawer – also I sometimes found it difficult to pull sockets off.

These Ernst organisers are great. They're not expensive compared to some solutions (although the exchange rate has slipped recently), but more importantly they're modular – so you can build them up as required. Like metal rails you can fit 1/4”, 3/8” or 1/2” clips on any rail, but unlike metal rails the clips don't slide around thanks to the lightly serrated edges.

The clip design also means sockets are held firmly enough, but don't require a big tug to remove them. Add to that the identification labels and your tool chest will soon be well organised and a piece of pee to use. When I ordered my stuff I ordered two complete kits plus a load of small extras. It arrived about 10 days later from the US.
