Alpinestars WR-1 Gore-Tex Gloves
As soon as the deciduous leaves start to turn their rustic reds and oranges these Alpinestars WR-1 gloves get superglued onto my hands. Yes, the missus loses my sensual touch for the winter months, but I keep my extremities warm and, largely, dry.
There's Thinsulate insulation to keep the fingers warm and the Gore-Tex keeps the rain out. In truth though, the fastening of the glove tends to let some water in. It's a drawstring-type affair which means that I can't zip my coat sleeves over the top.
This encourages rain to seep into the bits that the elastic drawstring can't seal, which isn't so clever. They could do with a bit more protection too, although Alpinestars do protection and weatherproofing elsewhere in the rest of their range. I've also got a cunningly placed plaster where I'd burned a hole in them on a red-hot brake disc.
Price-wise, £55 is reasonable value for a pair of gloves that stop your fingers falling off, especially as they've been fighting frostbite for well over two years now.
