Rossi, Byrne, Richards and...the rest

Eugene Laverty 250 Aprilia
May 6, 2008 - Kenny Pryde

Valentino Rossi gave his Bridgestone-shod Yamaha its first win in Shanghai, after a race-long duel with Dani Pedrosa on the Michelin Honda. This pair were miles ahead of the rest – almost literally – with Casey Stoner claiming third. Fourth went to 'walking' wounded Jorge Lorenzo on the Michelin-shod Yamaha. Lil' Dani now leads the championship.

In Blighty Shane Byrne won both British superbike races in tricky conditions at Oulton park after what might be called an 'incident packed' weekend. There were crashes, there was acrimony and Byrne's big-bore Ducati has won the championship already.

Glen Richards (MAP Embassy Triumph) pipped Hudson Kennaugh (Raceways Yamaha) and Relentless Suzuki's Ian Lowry to give the Triumph Daytona 675 its first win in British supersport which means the Aussie now leads the championship ahead of Steve Brogan.

And special mention to Eugene Laverty, battling in a tough 250 GP class in Shanghai. The young Irishman was 13th, his best ever result in Grands Prix and he was running in eighth place in tricky wet-damp conditions when he managed to out-brake himself. All in all though, something of a confidence booster and no mistake.
