Dr Shox Enduro School – a day of fun for beginners or two days of pain for experienced enduro-ists

Let’s be honest, road rides at this time of year are hardly the time to be improving your cornering technique. Yes, riding is still enjoyable and you can still have a great day out on the bike, but you’re unlikely to break a sweat at any point. OK, except for pushing your bike back into the garage wearing fourteen layers of heated kit.

We’ve all got different coping mechanisms for Winter and mine predominantly involves dirt bikes. If you’ve not had much of a crack at off roading, a day at an off road or enduro school is definitely the best way to start out. Dr Shox (not an actual doctor, but a bloke from Essex called Chris) is running enduro schools for beginners throughout the Winter. Heck there’s one this weekend if you’re quick… Based in Suffolk, the beginner school teaches the basics of riding off road and costs £80 for the day. You’ll definitely get muddy and definitely ride a bike across stuff you never thought you’d be able to.

If you are already converted and ride off road regularly, then there’s a two-day boot camp with some of the UK’s best enduro riders. This is not the same jolly as the beginner’s school. The boot camp will leave you choking on your lungs, utterly exhausted and longing for a hot bath. On the plus side, you’ll be much faster and have a better understanding of why you are not a British Enduro Champion. Yet.
