Race one at Silverstone went in favour of Alex Lowes by just 0.094 seconds. Shakey pushed to keep with Lowes and in the post race interviews said “There was a point about half or three quarters of the way through the race when he upped his pace and I thought ‘for God’s sake, give me a break!'”. Shakey did manage to keep pace with Lowes and put a move on him, unfortunately it was the first time he had led out of the tight stadium section and he made a mistake allowing Lowes back through. The last corner on the last lap saw Shakey pull knowledge from last years battle with Alex and he adjusted his line into Luffield to get the drive past Lowes, they were milimeters apart, but Lowes just edged it out. Lowes said: “It was a great race with Shakey and we stopped together after the race together and said just that and thanks for a good race. It was really nice after the mistake at Assen and if you forget that now the two races we have had in the Showdown have had some awesome battles that either of us could have won so that’s fantastic.”
The title fight leaders now go into the final round at Brands Hatch in two weeks time with a single point still separating the pair. Shakey is renowned for his ability at Brands, but Lowes is definitely going to put up a strong fight. The pressure will be on and we can’t wait to see how that weekend unfolds.
It wasn’t all about the leading pair at the weekend though, dicing away for the final step on the podium was Tommy Bridewell on the Milwaukee Yamaha. Tommy took to the podium in both races to score his first double podium finish and lies third in the championship, sixteen points clear of nearest rival Josh Brookes.
